Hey all. New to the site and new to varmint hunting. Got a question. I have been hunting for years. Always bear, deer and pig. Have never hunted varmint or anything like it. My question is, what do you all do with rabbits, squirrels or any other varmint you shoot? When I hunt for bear, deer or pig I eat the meat. I've had rabbit before but thats it. My buddy and I want to start hunting varmints and coyote, I just don't want to do something un-ethical.

As in my PC handle. Ground squirrels are not for eating and cally coyote aren't worth anything for the fur. SO they are good targets while reducing the pest population.

there is another reason not to eat or handle the ground squirrels. Bubonic plague or Black Death is present in CA and squirrels, rats and other rodents are sometimes infected. If you should handle a squirrel with a plague carrying flea you could be on a five day countdown to an unpleasant end. Of course with proper, early treatment you have a good chance of surviving with little damage. :harhar1[1]: Public Service Announcement OUPOORFELLOW:D

Gray squirrels are good eating and so are the rabbits Young jacks are also good. Yotes and bob cats can have nice pelts. I shoot allot on private property where the rancher wants anything with fur dead.
