I recently just moved to NV from Ca. I still plan on hunting CA for many years to come. Over the years I have come to enjoy CA deer hunting very much. I am a die hard pig hunter, so I will continue to chase the pork around the hills of CA. The season before last we hunted X9A, even though I didnt tag out my buddy did on this monster. We hunted at 11,00 feet and it was the prettiest muile county I have ever been in in my life. It was a lot of work and kudos to my buddy for scoring on this nice mule deer. I'm hoping to draw this zone this year, so I can be in the same spot come opening morning. Where's everyone puttin in for this year?1. X9A (CA)2. Unit 16/17 (NV-Backpack Hunt)Posted Image

Well getting drawn is hard enought but I'm going to put in for X3B,X2,And X3A. I got a D3 tag last year and I hunted and hunted and hunted and all I seen was a couple of does. I will never put in for that tag again waste of time and money unless you have some where really good to hunt.

D-17 in October missed a 5x5 there last year and know for a fact that no one got him. Its real hard hunting out there but if you see one it will be big. Then back to Kansas for pheasants and doe tags for meat they were only $10 a piece and I can buy up to 4. Will have to call my cousin who works for F&G and see if they have went up or not.
If it flies it dies, If it runs its done, Hook'it, snag'it, gig'it, just kill itFire up the grill cause deer huntin ain't catch and releaseI dig hot chicks in camo bikini's with guns in their hands.

D6 and might get an archery only for D5. any one going to try to call in a bear?
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I was thinking about a leftover tag for D19, but if you're looking for company I'm interested. Any excuse to get into the hills is a good one. Are you thinking about a day trip or a backpack/overnight trip? I'm up for either.Cheers,Scott

I'll be hunting the C zone, as that's where the "Happy Place" is. Last year I got one on opening day, and the year before my son got one on the first Tuesday of season. The deer are up there if you can just find them.

How long of a haul is it to where you're going to hunt? And congrats on drawing tags! It's sad you have a better chance of drawing tags out of state than you do in your own state of CA.

Chuck, I thought you got the Southern Zone? That's what you told me on the phone Friday????? :)

I thought 987 was southern but Trott said it was central. So, I guess we are going "central". I will check with Robert again when I get back from Seattle.

That's a great buck, especially compared to what I see down here in D-16. I didn't draw my WY pronghorn this year so I'll be hunting D-16 and B-2 this year. S&S

I also have a B-Zone tag. This will be my first year hunting for deer in California. I am also from Nevada. My nephew just turned 12 and has an A-Zone tag. Any suggestions? If you do not have anyone to go with in B-Zone this year maybe we can meet up? I live in Livermore.

I'm buying a Zone 'A' tag. Check your other post - I have property at Indian Valley. Last I remember you can buy Zone A over the counter. Can you still? (Been awhile since I had time to deer hunt!)Hunted X10 years ago -the most sign I had ever seen! No bucks. After 5 days of hard hunting, I decided to hit the steep ass 3000 foot decent to the valley floor. Not 100 yards down the hill I jumped 2 monster mulies. Needless to say, buy the time the rifle came up they were gone.Remember that......................try where no one else dares to go if your not seeing game. They are there - just hiding!

I believe you can still buy A-Zone tags. I PM'd you and gave you my number. If you would like to go together.

Scubamike - shoot another PM over. I didn't get the last one with your number. Is the opener August 14th or something? I know it's usually a Saturday. I can take that Friday off and meet you in Williams (Hwy 5 and Hwy 20) at Granzella's or something. If you want to hook up, I'll take you to my property. Hasn't been hunted in at least 5 years. Last July I scouted and had some huge hogs come through, rooted the dog poop out of my meadow.I also found 'THE' deer community meeting place.......... :) Just be ready for a hard hunt. I can drive in, but when I'm seriously hunting game I walk in - it's just about 1 mile up the creek or about 3 on the road. WELL WORTH IT!

I'll be doing D4 & 5.... Haven't been out in a couple of years. Last time up around the Rubicon i saw 2 NICE 4 ptrs. In the back of someone elses pickup. :-(I'll hunt up around there and then off of I-80 near Alta. Last time i was there, folks were chasing bear all over. Deer didn't have much chance. Some interesting folks own bear dogs. :-)Keep your powder dry, steve
