No comment about your idiotic laws in Kalifornistan. But my daughtrs were brought up around guns and knew about them as children and how to handle them and to know where they were in case something bad did happen. And yes they are ALL loaded nd ready to go. Shotshells in a handgun for self defense? That's almost as useless as hind, you know. If you need to shoot someone. Shoot them with a real bullet and do society a favor by making them worm dirt. Gun laws are only for politicians that think they need to control YOU and idiot people that have been brainwashed by what they teach them in school...Walt
I like beautiful women, fine wine and poking dead things with a stick!"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."Socialism is not a Republic.

I have a glock under my bed in a safe. (the small one with 5 buttons, you have to press 3 of them in the right order) The safe has the glock- loaded, a small flash light, cell phone- old one that could only call 911 and 2 extra mags. That takes care of the upstairs. The large safe is in the livingroom, that has the 357- loaded with 2 speed loaders as well as the Winchester Defender 12g- loaded and I also keep the AR loaded in there w/ 2 extra mags. When someone comes to the door I do not open it. 99.9% of the time I don't want to deal with them, so I tell them through the door that I am not interested. If I do open the door I keep my foot and at least half my body behind it and my foot planted so it only opens about 4 inches. (the revolver also goes behind my rear leg- out of sight) I plan to get one of those picture frame gun safes soon. (drop down quick release ones) That will go in the hallway, near the front door. My son is 2.

Pretty much the same here Elvis. I like the picture frame idea. I need to get used to carrying around the house. When and if I get approved for CCW I'm buying a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster. I will then be carrying ALL THE TIME (except at work, the post office, shower and bed). :)NVWalt, I too grew up around handguns as a kid and my parents never had a safe. But I grew up in small towns. Now i live in a big city (not LA, but Bakersfield is big enough). Add in california laws and all of my stuff is locked up unless in my direct posession. I think the difference now in a big city is that MOST people don't have firearms or have never been around them. I wouldn't be worried as much about MY kids getting into the guns as I would be about outside kids (my kids friends, nieces, nephews, friends kids) getting into them and not knowing the danger.

I have weapons in my house and also a child. She is now an adult child, but here is what I did when she was younger:When she was 5 years old I told her that daddy has guns and she could see them whenever she wanted as long as she came to me first and we would look at them together for as long as she wanted. Being a child, she needed to test this out. So, she came to me the first time and told me that she wanted to see a gun. I immediately stopped what I was doing and had the firearm safety talk with here (for the second time). After that we went to the safe and I let her point to what she wanted to see. Whenever I pick up a weapon I always do the same thing. I keep it pointed in a safe direction, keep my finger off the trigger make sure there's not a magazine in the weapon and then I look in the chamber and put my finger in the chamber to make sure that there is absolutely not a round in there. I also verbalize it as I am doing it. I then assisted her in doing it so that she learned what to do even if someone hands her a supposedly unloaded weapon. After we were done looking at them we again made sure they were safe and put them away. She asked me to see them twice more and then had no interest whatsoever. The whole thing was demystified for her. She knew what they were and that I would take them out and look at them with her whenever she wanted. Therefore no more interest. Well, no more interest until I bought her a Ruger 10/22 when she was 10 years old. Then she would just ask me when we could go to the range. Yup, I was and am still a proud father.I have never kept a loaded weapon unlocked in the house unless it was secured on my person. At night it goes in a lock box that is easily accessible if needed.
