You absolutely can call them. They have coon fight sounds, coon distress sounds, and even pup (what's a baby coon called?) distress sounds. Bigh pitch busy sounds such as bird sounds work well, too. I beleive that CA law requires a coon to be taken with a shotgun or a rimfire; is that correct or is my memory toast?

My cousin calls them and he just goes out and finds a den tree and sets up and starts with a bird distress for a few minutes and then switches to a coon fight so that it sounds like two coons fighting over food and he gets alot of them. Called 18 in one day on different set ups this is back in Kansas and they can sell the furs back there. A good one will bring $8-$12. Growing up it was nothing to get $30-$40 out of a good one.

Well, you could try hand calls. I believe they have coon squaller hand calls available ... I think it was on the Burnham Brothers website where I saw them.

Try that coon squaller and you won't see anything it makes the sound of a dying coon and they'll run like hell if they hear that. We used to use it to get them to look at us or come out of trees for a good shot it really makes them nervous.
