Howdy,Well, maybe there's something to that phase of the moon timing. Went to Gerlach for two days this weekend and put a lot of effort into calling using a foxpro and manual calls. We only saw two and missed both. We were getting some answers while howling and heard a fair number of spotaneous howling by some of the dogs. So, were these poor to mediocre results due to the phase of the moon, overuse of the Foxpro caller, or what? It was still better than working.Gary

Most of the yotes I have seen or taken have been during the full moon, or close to it, cycle. Don't know which is better.

I never paid much atintion to that I go when I can go.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Gary, Gerlach is a popular area, so is Empire and Smoke Creek. People from Reno and Susanville. Carson and Fernly hunt there all the time. The couple ranches over in Smoke Creek and one ranch I hunt on up in the Black Rock have it aerial gunned often also. Ron and I have been out in Smoke Creek and have watched a coyote go for cover under some sage when the plane was heard. There are still a lot of coyotes up there and on any given day you can get more than a few but they are hunted hard and you really have to watch your approuch, where your truck is, wind, noise, and everything else that goes into being completely in stealth mode. Also the contest hunters go there a lot also. I've never been skunked up there, knock on my wooden head, but I'm sure it will happen one day. Probably when we get together in November.LOL. Walt.

That area is indeed popular. 10 years ago you would see coyotes just walking around mid day. Now there far more scarce, as well as well taught. Many people head out that way during the various contest that are held in Nevada. As Walt said, they are there, there just wel educated.Rukus

When we were up at Black Rock years back for rocket tests we'd see coyotes walking the edge of the Playa all of the time. Like Joe mentioned those days are gone due to the pressure they receive now. They're still there just smarter.
