My son and I have a pheasant hunt scheduled for later this month at the Clear Creek Sports Club near Corning. The club is just south of the indian casino off of I-5. This is the end of the club season shootout for pheasants. I was just wondering if any of you guys are members or have ever hunted there and how the experience was?Dan

Hello Dan,I have never personally been out there but, my brother and his friends who live in Redding, CA have. They told me it was a real fun experience and that the property was very well taken care of. The staff was very friendly and that they would go back again sometime. I was actually thinking about taking my son out there to do some hunting as well. I left them an email about the packages they offer and I am waiting to hear back from them. Corning is a beautiful area and the weather is really nice right now. You should have a great hunt with your son! :pirashoot: Nelson

Nelson,Thanks for the info. I am always a little skeptical when it comes to a new spot to spend my cash. It is comforting to know that your relatives and friends liked the place. If you are looking for info they do have a website. The phone number on the site is the manager's cell and he does pick up, even if he is in the field.clearcreeksportsclub.com

My son and I went last weekend and had a great time. The Clear Creek Hunt Club is on land leased from the indians and is huge with lots of different types of terrain. There were 17 hunters total on Sunday and we killed 8 birds. When we checked out only one group had killed more birds than we did and that was two guys who 12 birds and they had 5 dogs. Having multiple dogs is a real advantage at this club because of the vast amount of terrain that is available to hunt. If you can keep rotating the dogs to keep them fresh you can cover a lot more territory. Our lab was really bushed at the end of the day and we almost had to help her out of the truck after the long ride home. The folks at the club were very pleasant and accomodating and if you want your dog(s) to have one last fling before summer, this end of season unlimited shoot out is well worth the $85.00 fee. In fact, after you factor in two tanks of gas and 6 meals the pheasant shoot didn't cost much at all! Still, well worth it for the great time we had.Dan

Sounds like a good time was had. There doesn't seem to be a cheap way to hunt anymore.

Yeh, finding public land to hunt pheasants is pretty iffy in CA. I would rather just pay my dues than wait in line at a refuge during the season to get a chance to shoot a couple of birds. There are some good club deals if you just look around a bit.Dan

Dan-Glad to hear you and your son had a good time. Sounds like they have a few birds out there. I finally got in touch with the club and I am making plans to get up there real soon. Nelson

Nelson,If you have a dog and take him up there, be sure to check him real well for ticks when you get home. We got four off of our lab after we got back. The manager at the club told us it wasn't a bad tick year but to be sure and check the dog (and ourselves) when we got home. It was good advise. Hope you have as good a time as we did if you go.DanPosted ImageMy son Brett and Riva.

I think I have shot birds out of that same bush, across the creek below the club house, spray your dogs with herz before hunt and most of the ticks will stay off, watch out for the fox tails thay can be a little pricey
