Went scouting today with the family. Wasn't expecting much since it was snowing at my apartment, so I thought for sure it would be blizzarding up north where I hunt. I was wrong, but in a good way. There was barely any snow. Unfortunately, the gates were closed and won't be opened until opening day. So we decided to go have breakfast. On the way out. I spotted a flock of about 40 birds with at least one nice tom. There were probably others but we could see them since they were about 250 yards away. My wife decided to practice her calling and got 3 hens to start our way. While scanning the flock with my binos, she noticed a coyote cruising. It paid no attention the birds, kinda weird. After breakfast, we decided to take a detour through another area where I knew there were birds. We saw 3 more flocks, all with nice toms. Saw a couple strutting. Further down the road there were 2 lone toms. So I stop the truck, roll down the window, and let out some yelps with just my voice. Got one of them to gobble 3 or 4 times.Pretty good day. 100+ birds, at least 30 deer, and one coyote. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera. Come on opening day!
