Way back in 1992 I bought my Colt Sporter H-Bar( Practically its an AR-15 with out Bayonet lug) I believe in 94 we had to register it,or some time can't remember when. There were notices all over the places Gun Shops Rifle ranges. So I picked up a form and it read some thing like IF you have a M1-A either register it or install a Ca legal Flash hider. If you have a AR-15 type rifle you must fill out form and send it in with $20 bucks.So I sent the form in and changed the Flash hider to the CA version. Oh a month or so later I received a note saying its ( My Colt Sporter)registered. I once called up a D F&G officer to ask if I could use this rifle in specific area. He asked was it registered. I said yes but offered to give him serial # He looked it up and said all was ok...... But lately I've talked to others that had to go to some Govt office and get finger printed and photographed. Well guess what that I never did so am I a criminal now? Is once enough?

You're fine. There is/was no second registration or phot requirement. It it always good to have a copy of your AW registration paperwork with your gun to prevent any question about it.

No really I know several people that went to some police station and were finger printed and photographed. On AR 15 forum under home town category California forum a shooter posted the fl yer for the 2nd registration of 2001.

Oh a month or so later I received a note saying its ( My Colt Sporter)registered.

If you still have the note proving you reg'd your AR15 then this is an non issue.

All you need to do is carry around a copy of the paperwork stating that you have a legally registered AW.

Do what i do with mine. Laminate a copy of the registration paper they sent you and attach it to the locked case you are required to carry it in. That way you always have it with you.

I just spoke with a very nice lady named Lana at Ca DOJ fire arms department. She confirmed my registration and did say that we AW owners need to carry a copy of the confirmation with our AW at all times. Because a Police Officer could take it to confirm Registration .Also told me what I need to do to get a copy of my confirmation.

She's just a hired hand ,not a law maker.Or even a Bureaucrat . It would've cause me unnecessary problems if I expressed my opinion. " Hey Ms public servant do you want to know what I think about that??????????????????????????"

And THAT is exactly the problem. Try calling them back next week and the week after that with the same question. You will get three different answers from 4 different people.
