Good luck everyone! I still have about 2 1/2 weeks to wait. It'll be interesting to see how many people are out since opening day is on a Tuesday. I'm taking a couple days of leave. The wife and I are headed up to do some scouting probably next weekend or the weekend after. Hopefully, there won't be much snow.

Well it just so happened that the opener was my hunting buddy's birthday...So we were in the blind, and a tom ran across. I saw the beard and the enormous head. My bead was right on him, but said to my buddy, "Kris, Kris, shoot him!!" Apparently he was looking at another turkey and said "it's a hen" I said "THAT ONE." He saw it finally and he missed his first shot, and nailed him on the second. All I could say was "happy birthday man, that was your present." Haha. The bird was huge. Biggest head I've ever seen on a turkey. I have pictures but my card reader isn't working so I can't upload them right now. One of these days I'll post them. We had a great time camping and hunting.Oh, and I got a few long distance jacks with the shotgun and turkey choke.

Congrats to your buddy on the BIG headed Tom. :smiley_green_with_envy: I got locked out of my place to shoot. So Hopefully I'll get them to change their minds this week.

Ok John, we all know that you bought a new air rifle. Just remember you said they are pets even if you did get locked out of your hunting grounds, :censored[1]:

Fear not john I'll use stick and string even an arrow she won't hear a thing >> heheheheJeff give Kris a congrats from us here at CPC (late nite post after getting up at 4AM can't remember where I am)... Hope you get your bird as well..My spot may be blown I make the mistake of telling someone I know who does not hunt about my spot didn't think he would let the turkey out of the bag. He in turn told someone else who does and I found out today that person went up there over the weekend. I ask him to find out if the other person hit that spot.Sorry John didn't mean to put TOF in there. It is a great forum as well..

Here's a picture of the turkey. Nothing too huge, but he's got that big head. 8" beard and 1.5" spurs. And that's Kris, a happy camper.Posted Image

Hey John... DO you have many merriams up around you? That one on the far left is showing MERRIAM big time.. My flocks are penned til season is over. Dont want them wandering off the property and find themselves shot... Last month they decided to take a stroll to the neighbors... Had to go holler at them so they would follow me home LOL.. Nothing is more embarasing than hollering here Chick Chick and having 15 full grown wild turkeys run to you and follow you home.. I looked like a Dr Doolittle parade LOL..

Yup, my buddys turkeys left all the time but came back, then one day...No more turkeys. They decided to go do the mating dance with the neighboring flocks.I also noticed that coloration on that turkey, Rae. That's definitely a little more attractive than the Rio's.
