I heard that the Surrounding Land owners made a deal with DFG. Because people like us were shooting their pigs when they wandered onto the Tehama Wildlife Area. I guess money talks and at the price they charge to hunt their proprety, they got lots of it.Boy that doesn't make any sense.
They have lots of pigs up in that area.

I asked Fish and Game a similar qestion about hog hunting in the Tehama Wildlife area and got this response from Jim Chakarn of the CA Dept. of Fish and Game:Fri, 02 May 2008 07:24:30 -0700Hello,Pig hunting is still allowed on Tehama Wildlife Area but only during the Tehama Wildlife Area G-1 late season buck hunt, only persons holding a Department issued entry permit and an unused G-1 deer tag will be able to take wild pigs. Due to very low population levels, lack of hunter success and budget problems, since 2003, the regular pig hunt has no longer been conducted. In 2002, 240 people had the opportunity to hunt pigs on Tehama and only one pig was taken. Personnel at Tehama have only seen one pig in the last three years and only one pig has been taken during the G-1 deer hunt in the last four years. Pig hunting was very popular at Tehama in the 70's, 80's and was marginally successful in the early 90's. This popularity was due to pigs that were causing depredation problems on the valley floor were trapped and relocated to Tehama. The main reason the hunt was closed is due to the lack of hunter success and the amount of personnel time and money it takes to operate the hunt. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me at 530-527-8917Jim ChakarunWildlife Habitat Supervisor II It seems that Fish and Game does not want to run the check in station. Hunters should be able to self check at the station. There probably are pigs at Tehama but there just is not enough hunters (or hunting opportunities) that are allowed to find them. That figures. I shot pigs up there as a kid. We deer hunted up there too and always did well. Of course things have changed in 40 years.
