John - pretty sure it is an old railway bed used during the gold rush era. Looks very similar to the old WV rail right-away along the Merced River. Need to ask the lady more about the history of the area. Finally going to take the 10 year-old boy out this afternoon. Borrowed Dad's Browning Hornet with a Leo VX3 with long eye relief which should work great. Now, I just need to call him in a cooperative coyote. Hopefully, tomorrow I will make it back to the brand new ranch.....been a while since I busted a kitty.Bill, that's is pretty country. Is that an old roadbed or flume running through the middle in the picture? That's about the perfect countryside for cats and dogs.

I thought it might be, there are lots of them up in the foothills. Those things are animal highways in that kind of country. I had one on 9200 acres of property I hunted for years South of Merced that was a gold mine in animals. It's great looking property, good luck with the cat hunting.Good luck on your hunt with the youngster today.John - pretty sure it is an old railway bed used during the gold rush era.
