Well it's back from the Factory:I gave it a good going over and a cleaning.As far as I can tell the only thing they did was replace the Forend Seems they locked it in a Ransome Rest and shot this Target.No explanation of any repairs I'll get to the range as soon as I can to see what happens, it still has all the play it did before only with a tighter Forend.If worse comes to worse I will make permanent Shims I'm just glad to get it back Now I got another Tinker projectLike I should be Tinkering after my AR Tinker, Right John Well Off to the Reloading Bench I go.

Wow Sterling, I hope they did more than just tighten the forearm. Just keep the drill away from this one OK! I hope it shoots better for you. It sure looks pretty with the scope and bi-pod on it.

They did do more than tighten the Forearm, They put a new one on it Which is good because I floated the other one and now I can start from scratch.They also left my Trigger Job alone, Still a Crisp 2.75 lb. Thats funny cause I heard they always take the trigger back to factory spec'sand undo any Mods. They did undo the Forearm Float

Well, at least they left your trigger alone. Are you going out to the range tomorrow? I'm spoiled, I like going during the week and having the place to myself. You better get to reloading if you're going in the AM.

Good to hear you got it back in a reasonable amount of time.I have a handi in .223 with the 22" bull barrel shoots better than I expected for the price..I took it down south at new years and plinked soda cans at 125-150, crappy, rainy, but I had no problem hitting my target. I shoot 1" groups at the local range and haven't really spent much time working on the load because I have the rem. 700 .243 project that I want to shoot.The load for my my .223 is:Rem. brass/Fed gold match primers40 gr. V-max moly27.8 grs. AA2460 (this is my max)2.310" COLFigure I'll load tomorrow, shoot sunday, take pictures, and face the shame of not knowing how to post pics.*I,ve heard that these rifles need a full trigger pull, not sure of the validity, but ... I am starting think that the fore end holding tight against the hinge is more important than "floating" the barrel screw. My .243 H&R superlight with the plastic stocks (soft plastic) is allowing /contributing to the problem. There is an amount of receiver-barrel space that could "bounce" that causes the action to open...oh yaa...been there on the ..243.I looked up the A&B mauser barrel site, good one to know, where did you find the rifle/action for the project?

I just did some loading for my Handi.55 V-Max:Siammi OCL is 2.250To seat mine to the lands is 2.443Thats is .193 differance No can do as the Bullet needs to be in the case .224 Minimum, the Diameterof the Bullet. I chose to go with an OCL of 2.300That leaves me .113 of the Lands and .050 over Siammi, not Ideal for accuracy but we shall see.Talk about a long throat, They did not fix any of the Problems I asked them to Apparently they have so loose Idea's about what is within Specs.I guess they figure .193 off the lands is close enough Just thought I would pass on the Info.P.S. Last Handi I buy regardless of how this one shoot's unless it is darn near Free or I can Inspect it and take Measurements.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having Sterling. I know you had high hopes for that rifle. Hopefully you can wring some accuracy out of it without to much trouble.

Here is today Range Report:It was 15-20 MPH wind from the right rear.It is showing Promise, Remember it was very windy.I will make shims and keep it, it's not going back to the factory.It is easier for me to make it shoot better.First one is @ 50yd.

I was gonna say, you might want to shoot it some more before getting rid of it. Sometimes H&R rifles can suprise you at what they can do, even though they're not "supposed" to be able to shoot that well. Looks like you're on the right path so far.

Well I placed shims back in the receiver, it is lockin' uptighter than than frogs butt now. Also made a new batch of reloads.40-55gr. V-Max's.So if the weather clears up I'm off to the range to test.If that go's well I will make the shims permanent.

Well 50gr. V-Max are o.k.55gr. are the best, about MOA40gr. is a no go.Well it was locking up to tight, removed one shim and it was better.I will make a perminate shim and be done.Still not happy, so the Rifle is for sale.And the Bushy is going on a better gun that deserves it.

Well Iv'e been at it again I just got done making Smi-Perminate shims.I think I had it lockin' up to tight last time.This time it is just snug, no binding and the shims are at the rear.This is the rough pictures, it looks better finished

I doubt H&R will care. Sterling's rifle is "acceptable" if it's shooting MOA. It's not acceptable to you and me, but it meets their standards. I got a good rifle, Sterling got an ok rifle. Hey, that's why they're cheap.

Sterling that's too bad about the gun, I know you had high hopes for it. What do you think you'll be looking at to replace it? Or are you going to finish up the AR first? You've had some good luck and your share of bad luck with guns.

The delima of what to replace it with.1: Finish my AR2: Rem. 700 Bolt gun3: T/C Encore or ContenderI know I've been around the block with the Contender before but I may take that drive again How about some suggestions

Here's an idea Sterling. It's a Savage package deal and these are nice light guns. Plus they have the AccuTrigger and they're stainless. The good news is in the .223 it has the 1-9 twist so I think our favorite reloads should work just fine. It's hard to beat the price for a nice carry gun too.http://www.savagearms.com/16fxp3.htm
