On my trip back from Hungry Valley. I drove about 130 miles on a busted leaf spring. That Golden Gate freeway really sucks the 5 north from LA and beyond. I am really lucky to make it home.Attached File  2.jpg   23.97KB   11 downloadsAttached File  1.jpg   18.38KB   12 downloads

I like that camper, and it will be even better with new leaf springs. Its nice and compact. Now is your opportunity to flip the axle "sprung over" for more ground clearance....Here's my little war wagon, just enough for a bed and place to store my camp gear...Attached File  1.jpg   19.56KB   29 downloads

Dang... How the heck did you do that? What kind of roads do you bounce down? LOL Or how much weight did you have it the poor trailer?

I'd probably add a short extra leaf on that spring when you replace it. And you should get the other checked as they're like garage door springs. When one goes the other is right behind it. But a short extra spring wouldn't even have to assist until overloaded or a break occured.

Roads are pretty rough. I took it in today to get both replaced with new hardware. I was on the freeway and a guy passing me told me my tire was smoking. So I pulled over and could see my sidewall was rubing on the fender I adjusted the load in the camper and drove on. Made it home in one piece. I have to buy some new tires too then I should be set.

You should upgrade to those spinner hub caps from Pep Boy's. They really look cool :yikes[1]:

By looking at the pix of the spring/axle, I would say "it just rusted out". That age of that trailer must be +40 years old, and with just a single leaf system, was probably overloaded when it was new. Like SJ said, add another spring. I had an old Shasta 12 ft trailer like that when Connie and I were first married 42 years ago, and it had just an ice box, no 12v/butane refrig. Man, that was "ruffin' it" back then, ha. Although I must say, I'd like to get another little trailer like that and replace this 37 ft 5th wheel, or maybe not, otherwise I'd be DIVORCED, ha. She just 'has to have her fireplace', duh....

First "buddy camping" Rule:Check with his spouse if he snores - if yes, make him bring a tent! My stepdad used to snore like a bear and finally made him sleep in his own tent and across in the next camp site!

I've been to too many NASCAR races and have ear plugs all over the place. Just drop a couple in and snooze away. No problem at all. What snoring???

Pretty tight in that little camper don't know if ear plugs would have worked.
