Yeah, maybe because the pre-ban ones are considered "assault rifles" they are excluded from some public land? From all that I have read on calguns.net these new CA legal AR's are no different than any other long gun. (don't need to be carried in locked containers, etc) An AR with an OLL should be just like having any other rifle.

Correct.OLL's are not assault weapons and do not have the restrictions that papered assault weapons have.
