Went out to Duck Club Tues. Night and had a great dinner, then this AM with last draw ended up with darn near a limit of Ducks. After waxing and cleaning the duck varmints had some lunch on my way to Rooster Ranch. I've been there a few times to shoot targets, they have Trap, Skeet, 5 Stand, and Sporting Clays but I'd never shot birds there. My friend who met me there had bought a card that he needed to use up since the pheasant closes 2/5. We ended up w/5 Pheasants and 6 Chuckers. The birds flew really well. Great fun and those chuckers are really good on the Barby. I'm tired and glad that Duck Season is coming to as close. Dale

I can't wait until duck season is over myself. A lot of my good coyote spots have duck blinds around and I don't dare go around until they are gone. Don't want to lose my spots due to mad duck hunters.

I wish you luck. When the bypass floods is the best hunting for me it pushes all the coyotes to the fields a lot easier to hunt for sure well let me know how you do.

I went chucker hunting once I had to walk up and down the hills and rims to much. They are good eating but that hunting isn't worth it for me I would rather shoot quail. Those pheasnts look good too.

would you believe me if I told you those chukar were shot in the flats, in heavy creosote bush cover, and with a 25 mph wind blowing ? they were!that doesn't mean we didn't walk several miles, we didbut it was all flat ground walking, like quailthe pheasants require a lot of walking as well, but when you scare a bird up, it's all worth it !I've got the doves, quail, pheasants, and chukar figured outnow if I could just figure out predators and varmints........

Nice going lots of good eating there.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Nice shooting Was those birds planted or are they wild.I ask that because from that pic there isnt much cover for them to survive the borders looks like its clear of weeds and the ditch is clear also is that a alfalfa field in the back ground.

all wild, I don't hunt the planted birdswe hunt almost every weekend during the season, usually get 8-10 totalif you find arrowweed patches around alfalfa fields, good bet there are birds aroundlook for the tracks in the soft dirtwe don't have dogs, so it involves scouting and lots of walking

I have a German Shorthair if anyone wants to hunt over him down here in SoCal he does real well back in Kansas but has a hard time out here with the dry air and the way the birds like to run. He doesn't bust birds but just runs right through them before he smells them sometimes.

Went part way up rattlesnake canyon today and saw boatloads of mountain quail the only thing I didn't like was that when I spooked them while driving up they flew straight up the side of the mountain. Man you would only get one chance at those things cause I ain't no mountain goat. They're the only ones I haven't hunted yet.

That sounds like a good deal for both of them. Plus it will give the dog some additional experience. I used to have to let my Shorthair out of the jeep a mile before I got to where I was going to hunt just to tire him out a bit first. :D Otherwise he was so full of energy he would get to far ahead of me hunting. :D

Mines listens pretty well but he still wears an e-collar in case he starts to get hardheaded like most males. These quail out here don't hold very well they're pretty jumpy might be because the cover is so thin.

Males can be difficult. :) They didn't have e-caller when I had my shorthairs. :)
