What are most of you guys using, choke and shot wise - what are your results with those combos?

I like a full choke and any high base #6 pheasant load will work great.

I also use a full choke any standard #6's but I can really hit them well with #4 or #2 3 inchers. There just more expensive.

Sweet, I figured the full choke was in order. They don't really come down, right? Thanks for the advice on the loads.

The standard advice from Crow gurus like Bob Arhnson is a modified choke with Rem nitro 7 1/2's some guys use IC and 9 shot. I just bought a stoger with a whole lot of chokes. i guess the best way is just try different combos and see what works best for you.Leftyhunter

You can use whatever your comfortable with. I'm a long time trap shooter so I prefer a full choke and the #6 shot brings them right down. I've killed them with everything but the guys you mention hunt back where the trees are thicker. Out where I hunt there isn't a lot of cover so using a full choke mean less wounded birds to chase around. JMHO

The area we'll be hunting doesn't have a ton of trees. I'm used to hunting ducks with a modified choke, and 3 inch 1 1/4 oz. 3 or 4 shot steelies. I don't think my 2 3/4 inch dove loads will work either. I'll go pick something up. Thanks, guys.

I use nothing but extra full or super full turkey chokes for crow hunting. For ammo I mostly use the cheap winchester universal 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2 shot loads or federal field loads with 6 shot. The turkey choke makes the cheap loads very effective. When you hit them with that many pellets even 8 shot can work well.

I put my turkey choke on and plan on using some 7 and 8 shot that I have sitting around.

That'll do 'er. Even with the small shot I still knock down crows about ten or fifteen yards further out than I do when shooting #2 steel at ducks. It seems like a crows wing bone is easier to break than a ducks and the high pellet count of the small shot combined with the turkey choke add up to a very dense pattern that makes multiple hits in the head and neck area very deadly.

That's because crows aren't water tight like a duck. :got_pics:

I was playing around the other day and tried some Remington Hevi-13 #5s with a mod choke in a Rem 870 and it was oblitcherating crows out to about 50 yards. All stone dead when they bounced. Pretty impressive stuff but it's spendy since it's really a turkey load. Looked like a pillow fight on some of them.Usually I shoot high brass #5s. Them Nitro Rem loads are fine stuff to feed crows.
