Finally got some 20gr hollow pts for my HMR. Going to go out Monday and do some calling and see how they perform. Mama changed her mind on a new rifle since we found out I'm going to be a daddy again and my 243 just tears up everything I shoot with those 55gr ballistic tips.
.17HMR 20gr hollow pts.

Try 55gr sp thats what I use but in a 223 going about 3,300 fps no excet most of the time. ps And congrats about the little one.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Check your zero with those 20 grainers. I've found they require resighting due to both elevation and windage changes in POI with my 17s. Congratulations. Dale

I have killed three coyotes with the 20 grainer. The first one was broadside at 50 yards and shot square in the shoulder......bullet exited behind opposite shoulder.....coyote took off and ran 40 yards and died.Shot the next coyote in the side of the neck at 35 yards.......dead in its' tracks.Shot the third one at 100 yards facing head-on in the throat and knocked it flat on its' back right at dark. Coyote got up and hobbled off.......found the decayed body a few weeks later. The 20 grainer is a tough little bullet and will penetrate but lacks the shocking power to kill quickly in most cases. If you have to use it, go for the neck or head and keep shots under 100 yards. Even though Hornady and CCI both use the same exact bullet, The CCI Game Point shoots better in all my hummers than the Hornady XTP loading.....you just have to test each. You would be much better off shooting an 85 gr. Sierra Spitzer at about 2,500 fps in your .243. You can get some SR 4759 made by Dupont (IMR) and designed specifically for reduced loads.....Dupont lists max load with an 80 gr. bullet at 25.5 gr for a muzzle velicity of 2,710 fps.....back off to about 24 gr. with the 85 grain bullet and you should have a great fur load that will KILL. Also, IMR 4227 is great for reduced loads.....max for an 80 gr. bullet is 25.0 gr with a velocity of 2,695 fps. During the 80's, I experimented with reduced loads in a .243 for both turkey and fur.....worked great with small exit holes and flat shooting out to 150 yards.

Thanks guys we've been trying for awhile to get #2. I've got the CCI's and took them out today to check zero had to make a few adjustments. The first group I shot I thought there was something wrong so I walked down to check the target and found that all three shots had pretty much gone through the same hole.Made a few adjustments going to give it a try tomorrow. Thanks Bill I kind of figured that I would have to make good clean shots for this set up to work not much margin for error.
