Sounds like you just want to shoot anything out in that area! Darren

Here in Nevada I hunt Chukar, Quail, Yotes and Mule Deer. Not much Bear hunting here, but would love to take one if the opportunity existed. I'm just trying to get a feel for the hunting near SLO as I plan to relocate there in a few years. Thanks,Tom

If it's California Quail you're after, I have good news and bad news. We have tons of quail all over Los padres Nat. Forrest. They are everywhere and easy to find on most public land as long as there's a water source in the area. The problem is that opening day you need to show up in full swat body armor, as there are so many hunters lead (oops.. steel) is flying everywhere. Nothing pisses off a coyote hunter in Los Pardes more than opening day of Quail. You'll bag lots of quail here!!!

Hey Tom, I go to Cal Poly and I have found that shooting here isn't a very popular thing throughout the general area. Los Padres does have good quail shooting as mentioned above. The Carrizo Plains national monument (I've heard) also has some good quality shooting. There is a waterfowl location that is legal for hunting but the zones in which you can hunt are horribly defined and vague. You have to shoot from a boat, and the shooting just isn't that great. Anyway if any of you guys in the SLO area ever want a buddy to go on a shooting trip with I would love to get out there and shoot with you. Going out by myself is just not as much fun, and none of my friends around here hunt so please contact me if any of you guys want to go. Hope all is well and if you have any more questions Tom I'll do my best to help out.
