I headed out Saturday night with my hunting buddies Jeph and Ryan to do a little night time hunting with the aide of our trusty spotlight. The first half of the night we had to contend with the moon making everything bright, but we still saw a few animals. We headed back to the place where Jeph had missed a shot on a bobcat last year in the hopes of evening the score. About ten minutes into the stand while using a rabbit distress sound he saw the tell-tale sign of a bobcat at around 200 yards that was on the move. Over the next 30 minutes we played cat and mouse trying to get him either close enough for a shot or to get it to any area will a little less cover that would allow for a better shot. We got it to within 100 yards once and then it turned and lumbered back in the direction which it had come. We waited and continued to look after we last saw eyes and just as we were getting ready to call it quits we elected to try a different sound instead. It worked! That cat liked the new sound we were playing for it and we once again saw eyes heading in our direction; this time it was coming at a good trot towards the sound. Once again it got inside 100 yards and into some really thick underbrush where it disappeared. We ever did see that cat again and later on we decided that it closed close enough on our location that it was able to see it with the aide of the bright moon and quickly headed for the hills. We didn?t get a shot at that cat, but it did provide Ryan with his first glimpse of a bobcat and what a set of eyes look like at night while predator hunting. Other than my hand falling asleep from gripping that light for 40 minutes it was a fun and exciting experience, even if the bobcat came out on top this time,We made another stand not too far away, this time I was on a gun and Jeph was running the light. I didn?t see it, but am pretty sure we had a coyote run in behind us and the light while we were looking the other way. It is hard to describe what the sound was, but imagine a dog at a good trot or full run coming to an immediate stop in sand with lots of small rocks and pebbles. It was quickly followed by the pitter patter of something departing. We saw a few more set of eyes that night, but didn?t get a shot fired. We did find a couple other areas that look promising that we will try on a future hunting trip.

I am going to start looking!! I'd like to be able to setup for running over to NV and hunting in the cold weather for some great pelts for personal use. That camper shell would do a lot to keep the wind off a guy to keep them warm; especially with a small heater in there with us !!!

If you happen to find a cheap shell ( look in back yards, you may get one for free ) let me know and I'll help you set it up. You want one that's about 6" above the cab of your truck. You won't be sorry if you set up a varmint rig
