I'm not familiar with the english choke terms but I''m assumeing a quarter choke is an improved cylinder. If it is you definiley need a tighter choke. I'm a firm believer that the most choke you can get is the best one for crows. I use a remington turkey super-full choke and most every guy I've taken crow hunting with me has made sure to get one for themselves for the next hunt. With the extra pellet dencity of the pattern you can get away with shooting cheap bulk packed ammo and still reach out there and knock 'em down. Plus it really blows the feathers out of them when you hit them solidly at or under thirty yards. :signs1180lq:

I can vouch for this! He made a turkey choke believer out of me... :signlol2iu: Braz- 6's or 7.5's. Go to Walmart and get the Federal Heavy Game Load (it's kind of halfway between low base & high base, and it's less than $4 a box), screw in your turkey choke and you are good to go!

What kind of gun are you shooting? If it takes screw in choke tubes I'm sure you could order a turkey choke. Otherwise, I think a "trap" choke is a bit tighter that a standard full choke, just make sure you don't get a "skeet" choke.

Hey Lynn, I think it's about time you started makeing crow calls. :signs1180lq: I have a great sounding call that I've used scince I was bareley old enough to carry my first shotgun. I'd be more than happy to send it to you to use as a pattern. If you're shooting over decoys and an e-caller buy twice as much ammo than you think you need. There's NOTHING worse than being under a huge crow frenzy and knowing you only have a couple shells left. I normally shoot about four boxes and someties a little more depending on how the birds are flying and working the deeks. If you can, get out from under the walnut trees your going to be hunting and post up on one of the levees that border the fields. If any of them have concrete irrigation valve boxes use them. They make great makeshift blinds, and don't forget the camo.

Hey Lynn, I think it's about time you started makeing crow calls. :signs1180lq:

I have made some in the past, but have not sold any at all. Just no response to them so I quite making them. Here are the calls I have in Burney on consignment. The third call from the left, top row, is a purpleheart crow call. Attached File  Predatorcallsburneysmall.jpg   125.78K   59 downloadsI'ver been PMing with Wes about what I need to do. I think I am going to pick up some of those decoys that you guys use. I think I have some good spots for shooting from, but will check out the layout and take what you said to heart when making my final decision. Thanks for the info.

Wow the guy I hunt crows with thought I was crazy using a super full turkey choke and since I reload my own I like using #4 1 1/4 oz max dram load. I can really touch the high flyer's and the ones that are tree level its like watching gun camera footage from ww2 when the plane explodes.

I shoot an escort 3 shot semi-auto clampdaddy, i also have a 12bore o/u and a 28bore o/u but i pretty much shoot everything with the escort, and yes its a multi choke and as its a turkish gun its full choke is slightly tighter than an english one

We need a picture of that gun sounds pretty. I like a full choke on them things to . they look closer than what they are.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Simon, that's the trouble with switching chokes and not having a chance to go shoot the gun first. That full choke besides being tighter may be shooting off to one side, higher or lower. Try and get out with it and shoot a few pattern tests with it. Maybe then try a few clay birds before the next crow shoot. Good luck and keep pounding away at them. :rofl2:

I had my pump all set up with the turkey choke so I could clean your plow at the trap range, good thing you got sick and couldn't make it. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:
