Looked out the computer room window and saw the family that has been around all summer. The surviving poults are nicely growed and the hen has done a pretty good job to have about a 50% survival.Attached File  5turkey_111907.jpg   105.73K   58 downloadsThen I walked to the living room and checked the yard. Holy Schmidt, Turkeys everywhere!Attached File  19turkey_111907.jpg   59.24K   58 downloadsWhy all the turkeys, I wondered. Then I saw the reason. Just like all the other tourists in the world they want to use the facilities.Attached File  4turkey_111907.jpg   80.85K   61 downloadsAll you turkey hunters have a good day. :signlol2iu:

When I get back from deployment, the wife and I are going to be looking for our first home. I've done quite bit of searching online while here in Africa, and I've seen numerous 5-10 acre plots that aer within our price range. One would be perfect. 10 acres, mostly wooded, and prime habitat for various wildlife. The only drawback is it's a bit of a commute for me to the base.

Well, a 'bit of a commute' in CA is sometimes 60 - 100 miles. With gas prices edging toward $4/gal that's a bit of a strain. Is that the type of commute you're talking about??

I'm talking 45 minutes. I'm not sure what the gas prices are back in Spokane at the moment. I'm sure we'll find something a bit closer.

Regular Unleaded here in Eugene is running around $3.09/gallon, highway diesel a bit higher at $3.52/gallon, offroad diesel is cheaper than both. :)

Yeah Randy, I have 5 pied hens around me that I've counted. Those two are different birds one is a year younger. Notice the bird in the top pick has more cream color in her. My wife calls her Creamora like the coffee creamer. Occasionally they get up on the front porch and make a heck of a racket. I've had them nest in my front yard under an oak tree. They're pretty entertaining with their antics. The young ones are a hoot to watch as they jump around and chase each other.

John, I love that top picture of the tom struttin' his stuff! As for the offroad diesel, I currently have no way of getting it since you can't pump your own gas here and I don't have a transfer tank in my pickup. But if diesel hits the $4.00 mark, I'll be looking for a tank... :signgreatreport3kg:

Does anyone know anywhere around Sacramento that sells red diesel or off road diesel? I want to run that in my tractor because I don't want to pay full price with road tax and not drive it on road.

So here's my opening day of turkey season. I didn't get to to go out that Saturday, but I awoke to my wife yelling my name. She told me to go look out the front window, and to my surprise I see this group or turkeys. I live near Sac State and wild turkeys is not a normal occurrence on my cul de sac...and of course it's on opening day of the season just to rub it in my face. I ran to the side of the house with my camera and box call. Here's the pics.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImageThey are walking toward my neighbors house. Sorry for the crappy pics, it's an older camera.

That's what I thought. Did some internet research on it. Once the tree is infected it's toast. Only conifers are susceptible to infection. The seeds are coated with a sticky substance so when they hit they stick. When it rains they slide until lodged in the bark. Kind of fascinating but, I'd rather learn about it from someone else that had the prob. :signgreatreport3kg:
