Last week I got out in the D5 zone at 7,600' elevation for 3 days. Saw a couple of small 200-250 pound bears and one 60 pound doe. I guess not enough weather to push the deer down out of the higher elevations yet. Today I will take a short trip and hunt at around the 4000' elevation and see what I can find. I have a self imposed rule of only taking 3 points or better, and they have to be a heavy (thick) three point. We'll see what happens, I may have to come down a little lower and stick it out in the oaks. My self imposed "rule" sometimes (more often than not) makes things a little difficult for me to fill my tags.Good Shooting,Jim

Good luck Jim! Good rule, just tough going in california unless you get way back in there, as in no roads for miles.

Hi Jim,Rcv'd a report from my brother hunting up in the D3 zone at about 7,000' and saw a few does but nothing else. Said a couple other hunters jumped a nice 3x2, but couldn't get a shot. Crazy weather has really scattered the deer. No bears were seen on this trip.Good luck at the lower elevation!
