Havn't gotten the chance. Definitely go for it. I think it is free and you get priority. It's a program for new hunters, shhhh I won't tell! :signgreatreport3kg: I don't have my old hunter safety certificate either, might have to do another one and get the stamp!

yes, I did one of the pheasant hunt down in San Diego a couple of years ago, a friend of mine just completed the hunter ed. class and listed me as a guest, I ended up went solo as he pulled out the last second. It’s free and they provided with dogs too, but the birds were planted right before the hunt, so it was not too much of challenge, I managed to get two birds in about ten minutes.

Heck 4 hours is a daily commute for some folks around here.Yeah - I'm trying to find some local areas for boar or yotes. Next year I'd like to go into the local mountain and try to bring back a deer or bear. Hey did you ever pick up another rifle? I think you were looking at a couple diff ones a month or so ago.

Then go up to a .243 as that will work in that size range just perfectly.Darren

Very flat shooting rifle. Round will tend to go right through a yote. Although you could load light if you are doing hand loads. Personally I prefer the 11/111 series for the synthetic stock, light barrel, and removable magazine. That is a good price though, and if you are happy, go for it! Get a bipod or shooting sticks to go with it would be my only other piece of advice.Darren

If you can take a deer with it, you can take a pig. Shot placement would be very key with a pig is all. Hit that boiler room on a quartering away shot if possible. If I were you, also take a decent handgun along (I take my .45 with me just about everywhere) as a backup.Darren

I have both a 7mm Mag and .243 love them both got the 7mm mag for big game hunting like Elk. The .243 cheaper to shoot does take down deer I have taken 5 with mine white tail and mule deer. I have shot coyote with both .243 is alot less messy the .243 will kill a pig but your shot placement is key don't want to have to track it down or wound it you will never find it. When I had to Evac due to the recent fire I took only a few of my weapons due to space and time I took these two weapons first. Then my mini 30 and 14 and two hand guns.

If I had to evacuate, it would be my .270, .45, Mini-14 for my daughter and the .40 for her as well. Maybe a .22 for my wife. That would be an interesting topic for discussion on here. What to take if you have to evacuate.Darren

I had to evacuate when the floods happened near Yuba City in 1997. The whole town of both Marysville and Yuba City were evacuated. Believe me, it is not something that you want to go through. You quickly come to realize what is important and what is not. Live things are, they can't be replaced. Animate things can all be replaced. It is a VERY unpleasant thing to have to go through. I feel very sorry for PM having to go through it. It is just gut wrenching, as I'm sure he will tell you.

I agree it is tough to do. We almost had to do it in 2004 with the fires in the hills behind La Verne. Photos, guns, and some clothes. My question was which firearms would you take merely as a discussion not to relive painful choices for anyone.Darren

As to which to take, it would depend a lot on where you are going. If your going to your brothers house, take them all. If you are going to a shelter, you may not want to take more than you can easily hide in your car. But be aware you are still responsible if someone breaks in, steals the guns, and then commits crimes with them. In that situation, let um burn and go for the insurance. Again, they are replaceable. If you have a safe, hope for the best. I know, you hate to leave Grandpa's old gun. But you can be prosecuted by the law for Grandpa's gun as well. I just don't think any gun is worth it to me to take that kind of chance. Believe me, when you are in a shelter, so are all the bums that prey on helpless people. You think they don't know folks have lots of valuable stuff in the cars in the parking lot? And don't count on the police to patrol those lots as in an emergency they just won't be around.I am glad you brought this up. It is something that many of us have never thought about. But it can happen to any of us so fast. There are lots of things that can cause an evacuation. We should all be prepared to move out quickly.

7mm should work great on Deer and Boar - a bit much for predators. The thing about Boars is that you need to penetrate the thick skin (depending on your shooting angle) so bullet type is important esp. if using a smaller round. If you have a shot gun you can certainly knock down a boar and a deer with a slug.

Truth is neither have I - but I've heard that if you can get 50-75 yds you can take 'em with a slug. I've got an 870 magnum. I'm going to fit it with a rifled barrel.Dang I want to go and shoot something. Maybe its back to the range today. Its just that those targets dont move.

Yeah maybe so. I don't hear much about stands in these local mountains.I belong to West End Gun Club - didn't make it up there yesterday - So what do you get with a Raahauges membership? Do you get access to the corporate bird fields?
