Got it on Saturday in D-8 off Sherman Pass. Pulled in and set up camp late morning, had lunch and left for the evening hunt around 2 p.m. Shot this forkie at 4:30 about 1/4 mile from camp. He only weighed 95 lbs. but he will taste good. Will go to D-7 area later this month.

Congrats! He'll sure taste better than the "didn't get to go this year" stew I'll be having! I used to do my deer hunting (not Killing...or even seeing for that matter) in D8 about 12 years ago. Never even saw a doe, but I was a real newbie then and probably had them running all around me...NOT! :signlol2iu: Good job on the forkie!

:signlol2iu: ... couple of ol' timers I hunt with love the heart and liver...fresh kill and soak it...serve it up with onions and some taers and sausage...I took a couple bites and couldn't handle the rest...always think of the liver is like vaccum cleaner filter -- can't get past all the impurities that it handles...guess it's the mind over matter thing.

Don't think, just taste. There's lots of stuff we eat you don't wanna think real hard about. Commercial sausage or hot dogs for example. :signlol2iu:

Way to go! :) We need details though. What did you wack him with, what ammo, how far, where did you hit him? You know, the full CSI report of the scene. :rofl2:

.243 Savage with 100 grain Core locts. First shot was 200 yds downhill took out the knee. After what seemed a long chase( it was probably only a few hundred yards) as fast as my 50 year old lungs would go at that elevation(7529 feet by my GPS), I caught up to him and put one between the shoulders blades from 100 yards above. I don't know how, it had to be adrenaline, I was wheezing so bad.

:roflmao3[1]: That's a funny read. Les, I know it wasn't funny to you at the time but, I can just imagine my 63 year old self trying to catch up to that wounded deer and cussing myself for jest wounding him. I'd have to lay down for about 20 minutes before I'd be able to check him out. Congrats on getting your deer.
