This guy and his 7 girlfriends were in my back yard this morning at 7:00 am. I sure wish I had an X7B tag!

That sure is a pretty deer. Love to see them in the yard. I don't have them here in Yuba City, but I do up at my cabin near Burney.

sweet looking 4x4...so ya think they're bunching up and starting the rut early with the early small amount of snow?

Mac,Everything is early up here this year. Snow, leaves turning etc. All signs of an early or at least cold winter. This is the first buck I've seen running with does. Looks like his neck is starting to swell a little so the rut may be starting early. Early last week the bucks were still running together. I talked to our Forester and he saw a group of seven bucks up on top off of Glacier Way at about 7200 ft. two days after the first snow we had.I really enjoy having all the animals coming through our yard. The bears like to scratch on our deck support posts. I'm pretty sure we build the house on a major game trail. In June, I was converting my shop into a bedroom (long story) and I looked up from what I was doing an a doe had her nose pressed up against the sliding glass door watching me.Dan

That's a great deer for California. No wonder he had seven girlfriends.

ShooterJohn,I have seen two others this year in the yard that are bigger than the one in the photo. Subdivision living must agree with them. I'll keep the camera handy and try to get a "shot" of the bigger ones.TruckeedanThat's a great deer for California. No wonder he had seven girlfriends.

*gulp* bigger ones? If you need someone to help with a "shot" let me know..LOL..btw, my brother lives in Grass Valley and has 5 bucks running around his and the neighbor's yards as well...they definitely do like subdivisions. Said he saw two very awkward bucks - a 3x2 with the forked side being very high and the 3x side only 6-8" high. The other was a 5x2..again, fork very high but the 5x side same as the 3x2..probably came from the same genes...maybe it's the mercury in the foothills? something you'd see from the Simpson's near the nuclear plant..LOL
