I was wondering if everyone was aware it is illegal to hunt Fox in California with an electronic call? I assumed it was until reading the regulations and making several calls to the Department of Fish and Game.?475. Methods of Take for Nongame Birds and Nongame Mammals. Nongame birds and nongame mammals may be taken in any manner except as follows: ( b ) Recorded or electrically amplified bird or mammal calls or sounds or recorded or electrically amplified imitations of bird or mammal calls or sounds may not be used to take any nongame bird or nongame mammal except coyotes, bobcats, American crows and starlings.I was told emphatically by two different department personnel that the use of electronic callers to take Gray Fox was illegal. The statute they sighted was the one above and they're right. I really thought I knew the rules as I'm constantly going over them for updates. This shocked me, so hand calls only.

I've been telling California callers for years, you can't use e-callers for fox. What do you do if you call one in with your e-caller? Always have a hand call with you, end of problem. Mr Thumper Dunker, I know some pretty darn good predator calling sissies who use e-callers.
