I just couldn't wait the full ten days to post pics of the old double I just bought so I took the camera down to the gunshop. It's an Ithaca Flues model 12 gauge with thirty inch barrels that are choked full and modified. It was made in 1921 and it still locks up as tight as a drum. I can't wait to put my new "floosie" to work! Posted Image

There are a few minor pits on the outside of the barrels and the case coloring is all but gone from the reciever, but the bores are bright and there are no cracks or gouges in the wood. It's seen some use but I like old doubles with a bit of character anyway.

Very nice. I love old doubles. I use us shoot one as a kid and have always had a soft spot for them since.

Your post inspired me to drag out my Stevens 311A 20 gauge and the Winchester 24 12 guage. Haven't used either for many years. Bores still look good and both need the same minor repairs that were needed about 30 yrs ago. :doh[1]:

Good to hear that you drug out the old doubles! Get 'em fixed and put them back to work! My first gun was a stevens 311A 20ga. I still have it but it gets passed down from godfather to godson so whenever my brother has a boy I'll have to give it up.

Didn't know the 311 had such a following. In high school I used it for all my shotgun work. Quail, duck, trap, rabbits, stray dogs, feral cats, etc, much fun. Occassionally the ducks kept me long enough to make me late for school. :yikes[1]:

Isn't that the truth about how things have changed. But then I had a gunsmithing class in high school too. Many times we had our shotguns or rifles in our vehicle to go hunting after school.

Well, that's where my gun is waiting it's 10 day jail sentance. I actually bought it thru Gunbroker and had it shipped to the shop. I do buy all of my brand new guns from that shop though.

It really isn't worth buying a gun on there unless it's a gun that's not being made anymore and you just hafta' have one. Even if you get one for a decent price, by the time you pay for shipping, the ffl holders fee, and then the governments fees, you end up paying more than the gun is worth. After all was said and done I ended up paying about 100 bucks more that it was worth, but I just had to have this one. I've been fighting off the urge to buy an old humpbacked browning auto but I'm sure the urge will win the fight eventually. I guess that's just what gun addicts have to live with.

I finaly got to bring home the new baby. I found some realy light 7/8ths oz. winchester loads and some light 1 oz. reminton loads to shoot in it until I get set up for shot shell reloading. I fired it once at a passing starling and busted his ass. Good thing, I always try to kill a bird with the very first shot from a new shotgun to test its "mojo". Now that I know this gun has plenty of it, I can't wait for the second dove season!

Hey Matt, my old Ithaca is a Flues model 20 gauge manufactured in 1913. I just happened to look up the serial number today. Mine is your's older brother.
