Anybody successful? We saw a few does, but no bucks up in D3. We heard about 5 shots in two days, but we were miles from nowhere.

Had a quick shot at one through the brush, but didn't connect. Took the shot as there was no other possibiltiy. But knew better. Even if it is 90% air, you just never make it thru. :smiley-sorry: Saw a couple of others, but one couldn't put a fork on it and the other was too fast to see anything other than horns. Oh yea, this was in C-3, up near Burney.

Only thing we have is a story..... A friend went up hunting with his buddy... Found a buck and doe bedded down ... tried to get the scope on it and the deer jump up.. They follow trying to stalk up on it as all the could see where the legs moving thru the brush... Deer take off down the hill and apparently went right thru a campsite... full of hunters... 30 shots later.... buck is down.. Turns out it was a 4 x 5 forget the width but lets just say it wasnt no 18 in fork LOL...... Very nice buck... Thats the short version LOL.... How crappy is THAT> Finally find a buck and you shove it right into someone elses lap LOL...

We were all over D5 around Bear River Resv. It was wet, cold, and at sometimes snowing. We spooked up a couple of Doe's but never saw a buck. We found tracks and scat, but never saw the deer. I think they were all in deep cover for the poor weather... It was a pretty crappy opening weekend for most around D5. I saw 1 deer hanging in camp when we left last night. We were gonna stay until today, but it would not stop raining.. course now its bright and sunny :smiley-sorry: Oh well.. hope the rest of ya had better luck!John

Sorry, only my 2nd year hunting this area so I dont know it that well , but on the other side of the lake across the damn. We were walking the area and there was a lot of scat in the area. I didn't see a bear, but saw the signs they were there. We had campers up in that area target shooting on opening day that prob scared everything off the that side of the mountain into the reserve. I missed as well. similar to Braz, I took a low percentage shot that I probably should have passed. the same day I also came pretty close to getting a bear, but the brush he was in was so thick I couldn't even see him. Just heard him thrashing around about 20 yards away. After about 20 minutes I decided 20 yards was too close a game to play so I backed off and waited for a while. He never popped out.

I guess I got lucky. I was in D-5 up around Dorthy lake and jumped a couple of does. They went over a ridge and I just stood and watched. About 30 Sec. later out came a doe and she was trying to figure out what spooked them. We watched each other for about 2 min. She started to walk up the ridge and out came another doe to follow here. Then came 2 more does and a fork horn. I took my shot and dropped him. I was back home by noon on opening day. While I was gutting him out the does came back to see what had happened. I'm glad I got my buck but I wish I could still be out hunting till the season was over.

well, seems like we all have some stories :good: ... hunted way back in D3...we arrived at our usual camp site and a "faller" for Sierra Pacific was set-up in our normal site...he left that evening. Seems Sierra Pacific bought 35,000 acres in the very back country we have hunted for the past 8 yrs and were set-up this past 2 mos to take out 100 trees. Let's just say it really screwed up our opening weekend. We jumped 4 bucks in my group. They saw two...nice forked horn off the road, but one of the people in my truck decided to get out of the vehicle on the side the buck was and [ushed it out before we could get a shot. Next morning (day two)...snow started falling hard...low clouds...3 people in my group were pushing the canyon and we get a call on the radio that a "big animal" is pushing out and ahead...no direction, but a person in the group saw the sillouette of a monster buck sky-lining (said it was like in the movie Deer Hunter...or like when you see big bucks on the ridges sky-lining)...he takes a 250yd+ shot, but couldn't get a good read through his scope (fogged up, low clouds, snow...). Sooo, no bucks taken...few shots heard...we saw 3 bears. Loggers said that they'd seen 5 cats on diff occasions and locations...we had snow two days in a row...I don't think it was quite enough weather to really get the animals moving too much...all-in-all we saw 12-15 deer and the bears...one bear was only 125lbs, the other two were 250+...wasn't what I was looking for...Will head up in a few weeks, but diff area...btw, loggers said given the land that SP purchased they'll be logging that territory for the next couple years.

Its all up hill. walk about 50 yrds and a big bear walks across the sadle of this ridge about 1ooyrds out. put him in the scope dang what a big bear . I had no bear tags , go figure. Just my luck. Dang*&^%$#@. let the bear go by, walk about 1/4 mile further and see a yote trotting in front of me. Dang. Cant shoot it, Ill scare the deer. so I hold off. I hunted all over that ridge and only found one deer track . Not a trail not even a few steps just one old track. Came down and headed to where my wifes brothers and father were. thay saw one buck and some does friday but nothing saturday. Hunted and walked all over this place and nothing . on the way home stopped by the check station and only a few deer were checked in and most were big. and the bears out numberd the deer , 2beers for avery 1 deer. came home . still got lots of time. got to fix my brakes before I go back up. Saposed to go with thumper this weekend.

3 - 1 was 125lbs and the other 2 were 250lbs+...not what I was looking for...still trying to get to that other really big one. Thinking about heading up to another spot on Saturday. When we ran into the loggers where we normally hunt, the truckers said the month prior they were hauling logs out that they saw more bucks in te other areaa then any other spot they had been logging...and, they are finished in that area, so we'll most likely head there for a day trip.
