Well we came back last night.. VERY dissappointed to say the least. Let see -- we saw 10 deer, 1 black bear that was out approx 2000 yards out on a hill two mountains over.. 2 jack rabbits, and 3 grey squirrel the ENTIRE time we were there. DUSTY, but cool, and I did learn that calling in Bears is SCAREY... I was just dorking around while hubby peeked over a cliff to glass the other mountain side.. Using a Hand call with jackrabbit distress... me and son are sitting in the ranger just playing around, parked on the side of a two track dirt road.... and all the sudden we smell bear.... Im talking it was STINKY. Warm Urine smell and LOTS of it... Apparently my sqwaking got its attention and it came in right next to us.. We shut up and it left... Never did see it, it stayed in the trees... But the smell was EWWWWW.. Heck I never thought one would come in where we were sitting, and certainly not that fast LOL... Saw very little signs of deer or bear the rest of the trip. Its like they just flat out werent there. What few we seen were far and few between.. So we gave up figured why waste a vacation day for nothing. Got in at 2 am in bed by 4 am and soent the day stripping the trailer to send it back to the dealer for repairs... Fun Fun ... Not...Soooo another busted hunt
2 hunts - 0 meat) Man I cant wait til Colorado.. Least over there I KNOW we will see critters.... We still havent decided if we will hunt Utah before Colorado, have the tag but not sure aout the timing, It opens same day as Colorado... Soooo we shall see. Just 4 more weeks til we leave

Well getting out and seeing them must have been exciting at the least. My hunting adventures have been limited to the season opener for dove, in which I bagged 5 myself and my buddy got his first pig. Aside from that, school/work has been brutal, either working one day or have school the rest. But such is life, right? I'm just biting at the chomp for the duck opener... Good luck in whichever state you choose!

That's too bad CH but at least you got out and maybe learned a little bit about bears. There's always a next time so hopefully you'll have greater success then. This overly dry year has made hunting more difficult in many ways.

too bad CH. I leave tomorrow for my opening weekend in D3-5. I heard some weather reports that there's a 50/50 chance of snow Thurs evening above 6,500'. If so, then I'll be glad that it will keep the dust down as I know it's been dry up there, plus it may start getting some of the critters to move around a bit. I'll be hunting deer for the 1st two days, then spend time hunting bear on Mon & Tues...or, if when I get my buck (positive thinking) 1st light on Saturday, then I'll switch to getting my bear...nothing less than 400lbs though ;-)

Oh yes bear reak LOL Sort of a urine/musky smell.. Some more so than others... You think coyotes stink??? A bear can make a coyote smell like roses... Some are just really rank. The trailer just has issues from when we bought it, and we noticed a few more things, Such as gee the springs on the ramp are pulling out from the trailer.. Might sorta need them things attached better LOL... And the auxillary fuel tank literally just dribbles the fuel out. And my water filter is STILL not installed that they were supposed to have ordered.. I mean come on I pay THAT much for the dang thing it better have it all... We have 17 issues with the trailer... Some minor some major (such as those springs)So basically all this time theve been putting us off.. Well we call again and they tried to put us off AGAIN.. Til AFTER our Colorado trip.... hubby flat out told them that it was not an option. he said we are bringing it in and they better make a spot NOW and that it better be done withen 3 weeks...Or they will have a 35 ft problem in an unpleasant place.. They all the sudden started hopping around so now they all the sudden can take it... We bought this trailer in April... I think they have had more than enough time to squeeze us in.

I think it was Bigfoot.I've never been on a bear kill that the bear smelt like urine. As a matter of fact I can't remember any bad smell on a bear. I'm going to my "honey hole" for a 5 day hunt for bear next week. Hunting for big or color phase only. I can be picky in this spot.
