Hello,I'm new to hunting in California. I have hunted and trapped quite a bit in Alaska. I am going to be going to school in Chico, CA and would like to do some predator hunting in my spare time. What is the hunting like near there? thanks Jake

Don't now of the availability of public land real close to Chico, but you can head out towards Susanville to the East. There are yotes and public land that direction.db

I graduated from Chico State and did some hunting out there. I use to go to the Black Butte Reservoire mostly. Lots of quail and pheaseant. Its shotgun only if I remember correctly. There are also a lot of Almond orchards and rice fields out there so talk to some of the farmers and see if they need pest radication. I am not sure if the range is open or not but in Orville there is a shooting range next to the airport and the OHV park thats open to the public. Have fun in Chico its the home of the dollar pints.

i just graduated from chico here this last semester...there is alot of public ground to hunt on...i didnt hunt many yotes but i did turn my dogs loose some and caught a few cats and i did kill some quail as well....just take highway 32 east up past forrest ranch and all that turns into public land...there are alot of good fire roads and good access...its pretty much all public land for a good ways through there...if u want to drive a little further u can keep going on 32 all the way past lake almanor..as soon as u cross the bridge all the stuff on ur left hand side is public as well and ull need to make a left turn off the main road and ull be sitting right in the middle of it..just go until u find those little fire roads and access roads and ull find plenty of land to hunt on...take care
