I have been agonizing for a while over buying a range finder. I finally bought a Leica 800 LRF. I know, some of you have the 1200 and recommend it. I have looked through them and they are great, but I can't see that far, much less shoot that far. :good:

I have tried the 800 out and love it. I have checked distances by stepping it off and found it extremely accurate. The furtherest I have ranged is 720 yards. That is to a fence at the end of my street.

but I can't see that far, much less shoot that far.

I would agree, that is further than I can probably spot them.

I think the one you bought is more than enough Rod. The Leica's are rated the highest by everyone and are very clear. Plus with the LED readout you can easily use them at dawn, dust or at night. I only bought the 1200 because I was shooting my .300 Win Mag and .338 at 1000+ yards and need to be sure. Believe me at 1000 yards you have to range something BIG or something next to your target to see it. :signs1242cn:

After a long and respectable service, I finally retired my Nikon Buckmaster 800 and switched to Swarovski. It's worth every pennyIMHO.

Have been using the Leica 1200 since December of '02. Still works well and fills my rangefinder needs. The 7X monocular is useful as a short distance spotting scope. Sometimes, I do lust for a Leica Geovid but, not at those prices.

That Leica is really nice. I really like that illuminated display. If I can find one for the the price that Rod got his, I think I'll pick it up quick!
