Never been duck hunting don't even know where to start, it always sounds good to me when I hear or read about others that hunt ducks. I have a 12ga. Turkey gun with an extra tight choke would that work or is another choke pattern better ? I live in Foresthill near Auburn I know that there used to be some duck clubs in the Lincoln area but I don't think that their any longer not sure though. I was told about a place in the Orville area on a road named Lower Hun Cut Rd. or something like that can anyone add to that or tell me of a club in the Marysville, Colusa area. I know that I need a duck stamp other than that I have no idea how to outfit myself to go duck hunting loads etc. Sure would like some tips, are private clubs extemely expensive ? Ken :)

Don't even start. It's a real bad addiction that is very expensive. It also causes marital problems, lack of sleep, freezing your a$$ off, and a desparate need to get a Retreiver, (That you have to feed and train the other 8 months of the year) I'll get serious next post, got to go to a meeting that has interfered with my AM duck hunting today. Going to catch the afternoon shoot. Dale

Heath Serious Duck's. OK F F 2U There are several Refuges in the Marysville, Colusa, Sutter Buttes Area. Hunting on the Refuges can be very good and realitivly lower cost. Look on the Wildlife Refuge websites I don't know their exact addresses. You could find some who knows the ropes and go with him, it's not for the beginner. There's also Private Duck Clubs which can be very expensive and yearly private blind rental which is not so exp. I guess my recommendation would be to find a good guide/outfitter and for the first time go with them. It may cost a few bucks but they usually will get you some shooting and give you an idea of the sport. JMHO Dale

I also will loan you whatever. I forgot to add that in your original post you asked about a turkey choke and the answer is no. Steel shot seems to like a modified to Improved cylinder depending on how your gun patterns, they reccomend no full chokes with steel.

not only would the pattern suck (blown out), shooting steel out of an extra full turkey choke, but it could and probably would also damage your choke and or gun.. I have had really good luck with Carlson extended tubes and I use their Light Modified out of my Rem 870 SuperMag (2-3/4" - 3.5") JMHOgood luck

Yea Steve I've seen those but have no exp. w/them. My gun doesn't even like a IM choke, the tightest is a M. Like forkedhorn the LM is my preferred choke and if the teal are all over us I like a IC. I've never looked into what the exact choke bore of all the chokes out there. One brands full is another's IM, and it gets expensive trying them all out, so I just use the chokes that come with gun which don't have a full/steel choke. I know the turkey chokes are even tighter than full which definately would be a no no.

I live right down the street from all those refuges you just mentioned. But I've never been duck hunting and I don't even own a shotgun. Yet... :)
