That's pretty cool --- dang, he gave away the secret. If the guy was smart he could've set-up shop and marketed it with plans for an addtl $5-$10 plus postage and handling...he might have made some cash for hunting toys!

Wow! That's great! I've been wanting a 9-volt flashlight so I could get the maximum out of the state law! I just didn't want to pay the big bucks that Surefire wanted for a 9 volt. Does this mean I'll be seeing more night hunters out there now?? I bought the cheapest Surefire flashlight (2 cell (6-volt)) at about $42. I wonder if I my Surefire red lens cover (another $30) will fit on this Eveready flashlight?

I used to buy those 3V batteries for a camera, and if I remember right, they're about $6 EACH.

I pay about $2.50 each for the Surefire SF123A (3-Volt) Lithium Battery.

Still for $20 that's one darn bright light!I'd guess the life of that light at around 35 minutes of continuous use. Anyone else want to make a guess?

If he used the 7.2v lamp, it's a 600mA lamp.Those 3V batteries are rated at 1400mAh.On paper, disregarding the overvoltage, that means 2 hours 20 minutes.I'd bet more closely at 45 minutes to an hour.

I made one today and it works great! I couldn't find the same flashlight that he used (I looked darn near everywhere I could think of) but I substituted an 85 cent flashlight that looked similar. The only problem was that the light I bought didn't have a screw-off bottom piece so I kind of screwed up the spring in the bottom while drilling out those little fins in the tube. All the guys at work thought I was screwy when I brought my drill and bag of parts to the break table and went to work on it. A few "tightwad portagee" jokes got tossed around, but now they all want one. Next I want to find a similar flashlight to use that has a focusable beam.

They were about eight bucks apiece. I should've got them at wally world but I was trying to get my shopping done before work so I got them at radio shack scince I was already there. I'd sure like to know where I could find the cheaper surefire brand batteries.
