The buck in the back of this photo looks to have a good spread started. Let's hope those antlers keep getting wider.Attached File  1.jpg   21.65K   6 downloads

I've got it too! My preseason anxiety is a little different though. Seems like every year I'm hunting with a new rifle and I wait way to long to work up a handload for it or I put off restringing my bow and I don't have time to re tune it. Plus during the months before deer season it's hot outside, I get really sick of my boss, and I want nothing more than to get up to the hills. OOOOOHHHHHH, I can't wait! Just hope the season comes before I bring the boss man a plater of knuckle sandwiches for his one hour lunch break. :drinks:

Ohhh I saw a young little buck tonight. His antlers were still below his ears, But 2 weeks ago coming back from Nevada, saw promising bucks.. He was already up above his ears and starting to fork :pirashoot: And his running buddy was a bit shorter but also was forking.. Down the road from my house about 50 ft... Is another okay buck.. Hes about level with his ears...

Come play in the Rockies with me on an elk hunt. No such thing as road hunting on that! I don't have a bow, but certainly know how to hump a pack and hike way back into the hills to take care of business! Darren

He is talking about forestry roads and it is a yes. A lot of people will drive around and spot deer then get out load there rifles and shoot. I have road around before ,but all i have seen is does and a spikes I saw a big 4 pointer but it wasn't season yet. I like to walk up a hill and find a area to scan around its hard hunting this state if we could hunt during the rut it would be different. It's best to wait for a good storm to drive the Yosemite Bucks down that's in d-6, last year was brutal .I was dreaming about deer hunting a few days ago can't wait.

I've seen 2 bucks in the area where I work that are both A-typical. One has a huge knob coming out of his head with lots of little single antlers coming out of it. I wouldn't mind bagging a freak-buck... But then there's the elk too, and we had a bear coming cruising across the road right in front of us on monday. WOO HOO!!! I can't wait! :doh[1]:

Had a little buck in front of my neighbor's house tonight. My wife came over and stayed with me over where I'm working earlier in the week and we went for a drive down some forestry roads. Saw one of the A-typical bucks hanging out with another buck that has the beginnings of a magnificent rack. His antlers were growing almost sideways out of his head, then when they got to the ears they turned upwards. I'll bet he'll have a good 20"+ spread when full grown. :smiley-sorry:

Mike, he is a great buck alright but he is off limit. He hangs around the parking lot at Yosemite village. I took that picture within a few feet of him :) .

I've already done my scouting. Go out in the morning, watch the deer, walk back to the house for lunch, take a nap, get up and walk back down the hill about an hour before sunset, watch the deer again... :smiley-funny-post-sign:

Yeah, well, life is rough! :yikes[1]: I've only been out scouting behind the house 3 times so far. First time, saw 2 does, a spike, a forkie, two 3x3's, and a 4x4. Second time was day before yesterday (Clampdaddy came up to visit me for a few days and I had to show him I wasn't full of BS!) and we saw a doe, 2 spikes, and another deer that wouldn't lift it's head out of the brush. Then we went back down the hill again last night and sat there about an hour before these 2 very nice 3x3's came out into the meadow and grazed for about 30 minutes while we watched them. The 4x4 had a VERY nice, wide rack so I'm hoping he'll stick around here long enough to end up on my wall! Just wish I had a good camera to take some long range pictures...

Oh man, if you only knew! We sat out on the deck last night until about 1:00am and downed some cold brews from the local brewery, smoked some cigars, and enjoyed the cool weather. And all of this happened after we took a drive over to the coast, enjoyed the 70* weather, and played in the ocean for a couple hours...
