Well I just got back this morning from our annual trek to Argentina. The most doves I ever seen down there. The first day I shot 2000+ and my total for 2 1/2 days was 3772. The group of eleven shot over 24,000. I'm tired. I'll figure out some pictures later.

Yep I had reached my limit, I couldn't raise the gun to my shoulder, just too tired.

I was so shocked when I read this post that the only thing I could do was bust out laughing. That is just UNREAL! I'm still laughing! I can just picture 2000 doves on the ground.

I've heard it's awesome down there but.....24,000 I think I would, honestly, got sick of shootin after the first 1000.Can't wait to see picks of the mass carnage!

I hear you on getting sick of shooting. Just to make it interesting you can vary the shots, shoot the high flyers or try for scotch doubles and triples by picking out a bird in the flock rather than a lone bird. We went to the rookery where the birds nest and I didn't have my camera but I swear it was like a huge bee hive. Our guide said that they reproduce faster than the hunters can shoot them and they end up having to poison them sometimes because of the numbers of birds and the damge to crops. The group before us shot 29,000 and the group before that shot 47,000, all I can say is it's unbelievable unless you see it. We shot the same field for 4 shoots it was on the edge of a 700 acre milo field and the water hole was a 1/2 mile behind us. When the waves of dove would slow down from the field they would start returning from the water hole. I hope I can figure out the pic thing.

That's a lot of birds...game hen anyone? wow...yea after about 500, I think I would have gone and grab some T'quila and a good steak...with dove for appetizer!

Don't you just leave 'em lay since they're considered a pest down there?

They pick up as many as they can. They don't go out into the thicket too try to retrieve them and they wait till the shooting stops before they pick them up. They are considered a pest and they do use other means to control them but they've found that it's profitable to allow the hunters access plus the dollars of revenue that the goverment gets. $50/day license, gun introduction costs were $110/per gun. They're economy stinks and they like to see us tourists down there. I've found it to be cheaper than Mexico and the shooting is not even comparable. The tough part is the 15 hours of air travel and 5 hours of bus plus waiting in airports makes for a long day and a half both ways.

Yeah, that Argentina is a kick !! Did you hunt out of Cordoba ? If you ever get a chance, give the waterfowl hunting in Argentina a shot... You won't shoot 2000 ducks a day, but 50 in the morning and 50 in the afternoon is pretty common... It's really amazing how the birds down there decoy, just a couple quiet trills on a wingsetter and they come right in !! And you're right - Mexico is good.. Argentina is fantastic !!

I've never hunted waterfowl down there but I want too. The trouble is after shooting over 5000 rounds in 2 1/2 days my shoulder doesn't feel like shooting duck loads. I wanted to go down there with the wife sometime and shoot doves then go down to Patagonia to sight see and fish, go to Iguesu falls and wine tasting. (they have some great wines) Then maybe shoot a Red Stag and do some waterfowl hunting after my shoulder heals from the dove shoot. Probably take about 3-4 weeks that I don't have right now. We were in Santiago del Estera which is the state just north of Cordoba.

3772?? umm... I'm trying to think of something to say to that.. Nothing comes to mind aside from IMPRESSIVE!!! And to think, I wandered around for 3 days this past dove season, and only saw one (1) dove.. Way to go

My bird boy Carlo with his sore thumb. He loaded 5600 rounds for me. 225 boxes. I tipped him good.

Shooters Thumb is a very serious condition. I lost my thumbnail from it last time down there and figured better my bird boy than me. Hey maybe I could talk to one of the drug companies, restless leg syndrome and shooters thumb syndrome sounds like a fit. That pile or birds is actually the worst shoot we had.

Thats insane over here we can only shoot 10 a day and your lucky to see them. They are pests over there WOW why don't they migrate this way. 2000 in one day you must fire 4000 rounds than....

Great pics! What a great trip that must have been! I'd willingly lose my thumbnail if I could shoot that many birds!

What does a trip like that average as far as air fare, ammo, and the outfitter you hunt with?

Around $4-5k. The base 4 night/3 day shoot is around $2.1K and that includes 2500 rounds of ammo. Then you have airfare, gun fees, bird boy, tips, shells are $9-10/box. I went thru 225 boxes which added a $k, but you don't have to shoot that much, I just have no will power and I was down there to shoot not watch.. The outfitter we go with is awesome, they meet you at the airport and never let us out of their sight.
