I have been looking at buying some land for a kind of hobby ranch type of getaway that has good hunting for deer, antelope and possibly elk and of course yotes. I found some decent prices for 40 and 135 acre parcels with road access in Elko county in NE NV but I have never even driven through there to see if it would be suitable. I will of course before I decide to go forward with any purchase but I thought I would try to find out as much about the area as I can before investing in a trip. Any thoughts on the hunting in that area? Are the surrounding big ranches a problem? i think there is a lot of BLM land around the area too and I dont know if that would be a blessing or a curse. any thoughts?

I heard in the past that area had very decent hunting. A friend I went to school with is with the Nevada Fish and Game and just last week I sent him an email asking about the quality of mule deer. I read in one of the magazines this past year (reports on the western states) that Nevada had a steady and slow decline in deer herds. When I hear back I'll let you know what he says.Btw, I've been looking property out of state as well. There's a guy in San Francisco that is trying to sell two 200 acre and one 400 acre parcel in Colorado...not sure youur price range - I was trying to get some family members to go in on it, but everyone seems to have their cash tied up at the moment and I don't want to just foot the bill and have them all come running for free elk hunting property
