HEY EVERYONE,I AM NEW TO THE SITE. I HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME BIG GAME HUNTER AND AM WANTING TO LEARN ABOUT COYOTE HUNTING. I HAVE ALREADY LEARNED A LOT FOR CHECKING OUT THE CPC WEBSITE. I AM HOPING YOU ALL COULD HELP INTRODUCE ME TO THE SPORT. SO FAR I HAVE A THOMPSON ENCORE WITH A 26 INCH HEAVY BARREL IN 22-250 WITH A FIXED 10X SNIPER SCOPE. I AM ALSO MAKING A PAIR OF VARMINT AL'S SHOOTING STICKS. CAN YOU GUYS HELP WITH THE OTHER EQUIPMENT I WILL NEED? I'M THINKING OF GETTING A WESTERN RIVERS MP3 CALLER AND A MECHANICAL DECOY. ANY THOUGHT ABOUT THAT. ALSO I AM LOOKING FOR PLACES OR SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE TO HUNT. I LIVE IN GILROY (SOUTHERN SF BAY AREA). I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT GOING TO PANOCHE HILLS (BLM) LAND OVER BY I-5. HAS ANYONE HUNTED THERE OR KNOW ABOUT IT? I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE AND HUNTING COYOTES. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT IN THE FIELD. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Welcome John,Just watch the postings on this site, and the members will cover various mishaps, mistakes, and triumphs. They will also posts techniques that work for them. As Steve(Mister) was saying, something lighter than the 22-250 for squirrels and jacks, and you are set. There are many types of camo, just get something that blends with the areas you will hunt the most. I have called and shot yotes without me having any camo, and there have been times when they yotes busted me when I thought I was completely invisible(or as best as one can do).db

Hi FT,Welcome to the site. I'm sure the guys will give you a lot of good tips. That Panoche Hills country holds coyotes, I'm sure. There is a lot of country to look for thm in. The roads are dirt and some quite steep. I would not go there when the ground id wet. That is some real slick, gummy stuff. Good luck.

coyotes are all over this place. some are just lots harder to get. welcome lots of smart people here.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Hi First Timer just to let you know that's me too just joined the site myself a few days back. We have some in common, have been hunting for big game for a lot of years ( not real great at it either ) but have recently gotten interested in predator hunting again. Done some many years ago in the Lone Pine area at the foot of Mt Whitney and it never left me still remember so decided to get into it again. I have a 22-250 also, and a 25-06 when I get tired of carrying the 22-250 with the varmint barrel. I just ordered the Western Rivers MP-3 Player myself and still waiting for it to arrive, we'll have to compare notes after we both have them and try them out. After reading what you wrote I can see that I'm going to have to go to Varmint Al's site and find the instructions on making the shooting sticks that you mentioned. Hey welcome to the club, and good luck with your hunting. Ken

Welcome to CPC. I hail from Southern Cal and if you are ever planning a trip south, look me up. This is a great forum with lots of knowledgeable hunters. I wish my other club members (PCOC) stayed in touch and passed their experiences via forum too. You'll like this place.Shoot Straight.....Red
