Everytime I get a coyote I send my FIL pictures. He is a coyote hunter in ND and hes always razzing me on how "puny" our dogs are. Then he sends me pics of his 40-50 lbs deer eaters. They are just huge! Biggest Ive gotten was a 25 lbs male and he had very worn teeth so I assume he was old. My smallest was 21 lbs. What everyone elses?
Im in the Mojave desert. I assume North Cali dogs are bigger?

20 lbs to 33 lbs

A good friend of mine that was a ADC Goverment Trapper in this area for many years said the heaviest coyote he weighed from this area was 38 lbs.

Females approx 22 - 24 lbs... Males perhaps around 24 - 27 lbs... on average

While I've weighed a fair number of coyotes on "accurate" scales, not spring loaded stuff, the smallest coyotes and the one largest coyote I killed was not weighed. But after hefting & weighing enough of them, one can often times come semi close at guessing their weight by picking them up. With that in mind, I'm gonna say the lightest were in the 10-15 lb range, and the one heaviest in the 40(+/-) lb range. Several were (weighed) in the low 30 lb range.

So mine pretty much agrees with dabob 's above... p.s. our largest dogs came from the more coastal & eastern high sierra's

It makes sence that the bigger dogs would be in the Eastern Sierras. Colder and bigger prey items. Ive seen some big looking dogs while at work, obviously without my rifle, that looked to be close if not more than 30 pounds.

I think the better fed coyotes are close to residential areas as they have pets and livestock to feed on.
