did some calling along the river this am. First stand was a good one as I started it up with a little bit of rabbit and a coyote started warning bark in the heavy brush along the river. So i switched to the Howler and waited about 10 minutes and did the coyote kiyis. That's all it took ,as this nice big male pops out of the brush looking around. I popped him in the chest with the little 223 with a 13 grain Blue dot load and a 40 grain sierra Blitz King. He fell over backwards and got up and made a big jump into the heavy brush and bamboo. I looked for about 10 minutes, and said the heck with it and went home and got my old veterans. Pete is about 15. Half blind ,completely deaf but still has the desire to hunt with an old body. Violet is about 12, has all her faculties , but not the greatest if you don't keep her on top of the game and hunt her often. Any way, i took them to where the coyote was standing and told them to do there thing, also in hand signals for the deaf, and about 10 minutes and 400 yards of HEAVY brush , I had my prize a nice big male coyote. 44.6 pounds to be exact. Turns out my shot was a little high and not centered to the chest, not good shot placement for a reduced load.here is a couple pics..Posted ImagePosted Image

Nice big coyote Eric! I thought by now you killed them all off around your place. They must be busing them in to fill the vacancy.

To light a load for coyotes I would say stay with the standard load.Yeah I noticed all kind of animals feed off of coyote carcasses.
Nice looking rifle.

on those light loads I am going to try a good ole 55 grain sierra psp. To be honest it was poor shot placement on my part. Had I the 22 magnum today I would still be out with the flashlight looking for the dogs ,as there would be a heck of a hunt going on, several miles away. the standard loading is much better for sure. Trying to work with something quiet, and effective for urban use. The blue dot is about half the noise.

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
