While I hate the ban myself, the guilt should not be pointed at DFG but rather CA legislator. DFG is just following what guidlines the state is forcing on them. I am sure DFG would love to keep mountain lion hunting around and other stuff; however, it is our initiative process and legislator that is to blame.

Us hound hunters aren't allowed any compensation for our time. It is against DFG laws to except anything without a guide license. What part of California you in?

Sounds like we need to put togther a Kern County hunting chapter! Born in Bakersfield, 15 years in Walker Basin, five years in Tehachapi and now in California City. Lets hunt!!!

I want to go, i am in Bakersfield too. Find Beach Meadows, there is a ton of bears up there. They will even stalk you of your not watching. Course they only get close enough to find out what your doing then they leave. Chimney Peak area kern river plateau!!

You can call them up with your mouthcall. Ive called up a lot of them in the Lake Tahoe area and in Washington state also.
Give it a try. That's how I origanally got into hounds was by calling them in and blowing my situation. So I went hound hunting and that was the beginning of the end for me for a good ten years. Love chasing after the hounds and it is more productive than calling but you can call them in with a mouth call.
I like beautiful women, fine wine and poking dead things with a stick!"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."Socialism is not a Republic.

I think bear season is open until next Sunday in Northern California at least. Isn't the last Sunday in December?

Sorry Shooter John and to every one here. (I should have explained and posted the link in the first post.) I am just mad about it being the last season with hounds. I love hounds and was only able to go hunting twice early in the year and was unsuccessful in harvesting a bear. I am in the process of buying a house and have been tied up at home or at work because of the complications of it. My land lord where I was living filed bankruptcy and I got kicked out to the place I was living while in the process of trying to purchase a new home. I had to move back to a property that I have owned for years. All most all of my stuff is in storage and I am mad because I did not get to get out and hunt as much as I wanted to. I was supposed to be moved in by the 16th of this month. It did not happen because of a title error on a piece of property that I own. Loan company said there was a 289,000 dollar loan on a piece of property that I have the deed too. It has just been one problem after another trying to get moved. I will quit my rant now. Just wanted to apoligize for just posting ( Bear season is over) and not explaining or posting the link.

Sorry again. I have known it was over since friday. I have many friends with hounds that have friends in the DFG. I should have posted about it. I guess I just assumed that every one was as well informed as I am.

A lot of hound hunters harvested bears this year because it is the last year they will be able to use their dogs. We as hound hunters could have met the bear quota any year we wanted too in the past seasons. Most of us like to keep to our selves and are not the killers the media makes us out to be. For instance I went out with a friend coon hunting last thursday night. We caught nine coons and did not kill any. Most of us are in it for the love of our dogs. We are in it for the Chase not the Kill. With this said I will also say that most of the bears killed in the past years, have been taken with hounds. Most hound hunters would not put down on the tags that hounds were used. They thought they were protecting their way of hunting by trying to maintain a low profile. It was a mistake to do that. I bet bears will become a real problem in the near future. They are not shy like Mountain Lions. They will jump through a window or break your door down for something to eat.
