modify 10/22 clip for longs?

I am helping out a friend by shooting the ground squirrels on her property. Long story, but I have to be discrete about it. I've found that longs shoot accurately and SUPER quiet out of my 10/22. But they won't feed, I know they won't cycle the bolt, but I can't rack them in out of the mag.
Is there some way I can modify one of my mags so that I don't have to load by hand? It's a real pain!
I saw in Midway that there's a 22 short conversion, but I don't want to drop $250 on that.
By the way, I'm using Winchester Long Match ammo. My gun sounds like a pellet rifle!

Off the top of my head I'm guessing the length of cartridge is the problem. Perhaps you could cut down some old brass to the difference in length between 22l and 22lr and fit/glue them in place. You may be able to devise another shim but I don't know if it would affect the internal rotation of the 10/22 magazine.

Guns and ammo are not the thing you want to Mickey Mouse a quick fix on.
It's just not worth the chance of getting hurt, or worse yet, hurting someone else.
Also, if you need to be so discreate, maybe you should not be shooting there at all.
No, I am not the Squirrel police, Just trying to pass on 65 years of wisdom.
