first day back

I think what ever was out their got scared by my brother, but I continued for an half an hr. Then tried some female coyote calls on the e call and I started getting responses but nothing showed up. Decided it was to dark after 5 and we only had another 20 min before it was to late to shoot so we started back to truck.
As we get in truck and start driving back down hill we spot a small bobcat crossing right in front of us. Seems like all the animals stay near the road. Gonnna try that spot again tomorrow morning or day after. Does anyone recommend a specific call that will get the bobcats going I hear people keep recommending wood pecker but I thought we didnt have that type of bird here in southern california

A certain prey species does not need to live in the area where calling... A predator will still come whether that particular prey lives there or not.
Also, whenever a coyote or bobcat etc crosses the road in front of you or is off in a field to the side, just pull the truck over, either a little before or after the spot the critter was at, get out and walk a short ways towards the animal, sit down and start calling. Often times you will call that, or another animal back to you. It can be a missed opportunity to ignore it & drive on to that "better location".
Finally, and as you discovered, leave brother at home... Good Luck on your next hunt
