I do believe that comes with a spotlighting fine of $1,420.00
Not worth the risk.

Perfectly legal to spotlight for Non-game critters in the right areas as long as it is not during general deer season. ( Or aparently the night before deer season if you get a douche of a Warden )

I know when I lived in Walker Basin we could spot light as long as it was east of Caliente-Bodfish Road.
Yes, that is one of the borders of Zone-2

We had a meeting with our warden a year ago and he actuall recommended these types if lights for coyote hunting because there is no voltage discrepancy and they work quite well.
Again I know where and when I can use lights just not sure about being attached didn't think to ask that at the time

The real problem with these lights attached to your gun is that you are pointing a loaded firearm when you swing the light. It just adds to the possibility of shooting the wrong thing. I sure everyone has perfect gun handling techniques but people and pets are shot accidentally every year. It's the heat of the moment thing when you forget to put your safety back on and accidentally pull the trigger when something pops up in front of you.
I wouldnt use (or suggest) a rifle mounted light as your primary light. I would only use it as a Kill Light. Use a handheld spotlight and only turn on the weapon light for making the shot. Works best with 2 people though.

In a perfect world Dave, but I'm under the impression he will be using the light by himself.
Solo Night Hunting is a Pain in the Azz. Better to have a Shiner/Caller and a Shooter. If he goes out solo, he will figure this out.

My thought was as Dave suggested would be to use as a kill light. And I it is legal for the light to be attached to the firearm or not
And to be honest I don't ever call alone I would be afraid to do so in the daytime let alone at night there are some big critters out there

Yeah, we had researched this for where we lived and came up with we were okay. A neighbor called the law on us for "spot lighting" and as we both were law enforcement (not on duty at the time) we got a call from dispatch and as we were on the phone, dispatch cleared us as they were talking with DF&G. The dispatch called the RP back and let them know we were legal. It was all good. We got a couple and had a great time doing it

Can anyone confirm one way or another if or when it's legal to hunt with the light attached to the firearm?
In Zones 1&2 you can use ANY LIGHT.

Portions of Zones 1 and 2 you can use any light. But it's 6 volts and not connected to a vehicle in some of those same zones you really have to read the regulations and draw the boundaries on a map. For instance in zone one it gives a boundary of Iinterstate 880 which was moved by CalTras twenty-seven years ago and it still lists the roadway designation. DFG refuses to change it for some reason and I gave up telling them the regulation is out of date. They told me it would take a court case to change the wording of the law.
There is 3/4's of Sacramento County that isn't in the any voltage light regulation. People really need to trace the area given in the regulation or face being cited.

I have Zone 2 traced out on a map. I never get up to zone 1 so I have never really looked at the boundary for it.
