Hello all, I have been lurking and not posting much as I have not had much success as of late (mainly a few quail). My personal predator season does not start till after deer season; however, that changed today. I was walking to a ridge that I like to glass for deer around 4:30 and as I come around the bend of a trail I see a bobcat. As I raise my rifle my glasses fall off my face (of course), he hears it and starts walking towards me. He stops about 60 yards and a 130 grain .270 GMX (remember I was deer hunting) drops him. The shot was on, luckily I did not hit him in the head. Without my glasses I can see, just not as much detail, so the shot was not as nice as I would have liked, but it still did the job.

Some notes: I have known a bobcat has been working this area as I see bird feathers strewn all around. The two I recognize are hawk and quail feathers.

I think he was hunting quail, as they were alongside the trail.

This is my first bobcat, kind of wished I called him in; however, this will more than do.

Nice cat.
I have run into 2 cats by chance like that, they were both in places I could not shoot them. One was while pig hunting on Tejon and the other was at Camp Cady while Looking for Doves

Thanks guys. @Shoot-it I love that .270, I just wish it wasn't GMX in there. Yeah it ruined the front leg. @Yateswell Thank you, I think that the glasses thing just sort of messed up my aim a little bit; however, my adrenaline was up enough that maybe nothing could bother me at the moment. @DirtyDave The only other bobcats I have seen are running across roads late at night.

Also, since my deer zone is D-15 I might have better luck walking into another bobcat than finding a deer. I managed to pull one deer out last year, this year I have not seen one buck just does.

I know I don't have to use them; however, I do hunt D13 on my D15 tag once in a while. To make my life easier, all my deer rounds are Lead-Free.

That makes sense. I have 2 different rifles for deer. One is set up for lead and one with GMX's
