I've only gotten out a couple times this year but it looks like it may be decent.

Went out for a night/day with Tim (Switch) last month. Including road crossers we saw I think 7 including the 3 we ended up taking.

Met up with my friend Ken (Moe) who was driving down from Oregon last week. I made 5-6 stands on the drive up and saw 4 coyotes. Shot one, missed one, had one coming in but was scared off by some ranch dogs that were coming in too. Also jumped one as I was walking out to the stand. No shot.

Met up with Ken and he told me he just got one just outside of town. After meeting up and eating some dinner we made a few night stands. Called in 2 coyotes on about 5 stands. Didn't get either one.

The next morning was spent fishing and bs'ing most of the day. I hit the road home bout 2. Made 3 stands on the drive home...shot 3 coyotes. Also saw one freshly hit coyote on the hwy.

So, for a definite leisurely paced hunt saw 10 coyotes. Hopefully a sign of a decent year.

Well, you're definitely starting out on a good note, Ed... And good for you too!

I'm getting out less & less the older I get it seems. Although there are other reasons involved... unfortunately!

Anyway, I was out for the first time last week this season, definitely the least / slowest I've ever been. I personally blew an easy slam dunk on one called in coyote, which my partner still hasn't let me forget about. lol Another pack enjoyed howling at me but wouldn't commit. 2 other friends with us faired a little better, but blew 3 easy opportunities at called in coyotes. I made 5 stands total here!

Their numbers seem to be doing well, at least where I hunted (above), & the little time spent there. I did try another area on the way home, making 3 stands with no luck. The dogs are there though, in talking with a couple locals & F&G. Again, just the nut behind the wheel I'm sure.

I will probably wait for the next dark moon (mid Nov(?) before trying again. I obviously need all the help I can get. lol

Anyway, I agree, it seems like it will be at least a decent year, from the very little I saw.

It looks like it will be an above average year around here as far as the coyote population goes. I live and work in coyote country and I have been seeing coyotes fairly often. I saw quite a few pups during August and September. At my house I hear coyotes early in the morning and at night at least two to three times a week.

On the ranches where I have had my trail cameras out we got a bunch of coyotes, small and large in front of the cameras.

I am seeing lots of coyotes here in Modoc county. Still havn't done any calling, been busy with the cows, deer hunting and cutting firewood. I did shoot one a week or so ago. 125 yds with my 22-250. Saw 2 on my way home from Lakeview, Ore. (30miles north of me) yesterday. See at least one damn near everyday, must times I don't have a rifle with me lol. Keep telling myself I need to get out and use that call I bought lol and the camera I bought lol. Ed

Very cool! I love the trail cam photo.
Now, don't try to get away! I am more muscular, more cunning, faster, and larger than you are, and I am a genius. Why you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten.

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
