Hi all, long time no see... Im still kicking around... still laying low too LOL (divorce still isnt over :( )

Anyhow.. I FINALLY got me a Calif Blacktail :) And yes Im going to mount him since this hunt was rather special to me :) Hes just a fork, but I kinda think hes a nice old forky ... definitely an older buck..
Hanging weight without backstraps and tenderloins was 82 lbs.. Took him in D-5... Was a great week of hunting, literally put 200 plus miles on my quad covering alot of ground, but it was worth it.. He was facing downhill, looking back over his shoulder, little over 300 yards... Shot him in the shoulders no exit. Dropped him instantly of course since it broke his spine but the bullet took out his lungs.. nice clean kill :) Had my roommate with me so getting him loaded on the quad and back to camp was so much easier than if I had been by myself..

Got a 2nd tag and spent another week up hunting with my boyfrirend but all we saw were does all week... And naturally since I have a bear tag, no bear sightings either LOL.. Supposed to get snow tuesday night so going to head back up Wednesday and give it another go... Hopefully the snow will stick and get the boys moving about...

I havent ended the season just yet :) I went and got me another deer tag and I have a bear tag still... Going back up Wed morning in hopes the snow will push the critters around some... Gonna do a day hunt with my boyfriend... Just taking the quads up and hope to at least get him a buck. But Im really hopefully for a bear too... saw 4 different bear tracks so I know there are at least 4 up there... two sets were good size bears, the other 2 were smaler ones.. Im not picky Ill take any one I can find of legal size LOL

Congrats, CH, on a very nice Ca blacktail indeed! And good to see you back on the site again.

On the black bear, I wonder if using a distress rabbit call would be worth a try? At least as a last resort before quiting (a stand(?). A mouth call would be easy to carry, wouldn't take up any room. Then again, you'll probably call in everything but a bear. lol Anyhow, just a thought and good luck on your hunt Wed.

Ive called in bears before :) Not on purpose.. I carried a handcall with me last two hunts. buut didnt put any effort into calling since I was mainly hunting deer at the time... This time I may try a few squeaks see what wanders up... I know there are 2 lions, and TON of bobcats, coyotes, and at least 4 different bear in the area... tons of tracks..

Hiow did I miss this.? Thats a real good deer for around here. :good:
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
