I couldnt wait and took the little 223 calling this morning. Went out to the west of my place and found some fresh coyote tracks. I followed it to a good calling area, that had a couple good drainages funneling to my calling spot. I used some rabbit distress and seen a coyote come up out of the main creek and park in a manzanita` bush. I had a 40 v-max chambered up, but way too many limbs for that, so i chambered up a 55 grain sierra bthp and planted it in its chest at 140 yds and 2 manzanita bushes. some sticks flew but it was a success . male about 3 years old.

Way to go EHD! :good:

Quite a few years ago I shot quite a few coyotes and some pigs using the Sierra 55 gr BTHP bullets out of my 22-250. It looks like it is still a great bullet.

Good shot and cool rifle. :good:
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Congrats. I have a questions. You obviously have it figured out, but you said you had a 40 gr and switched to a 55gr. Do they shoot the same?

I spent some time working some loads that have the same impact. Within1/4 to3/8" .

Good looking dog and rifle there. To take it loads you worked up adds a bit to the reward.

In other words...exactly the same.

I too dig the .223. Great round. And I agree with the 55gr bullets out of them, especially for coyotes. :good:

Thanks all for the replys. I really have been missing the boat not having a 223. I got home a little early, and shot about 20 " gopher loads "at the target. Tried to get some 55 grainers to shoot with the same poi, but no luck yet they were pulling to the left a little bit. Interesting i seated the bullet about.020 further and it cleaned the group up a bunch. Still needs more work.

Now, don't try to get away! I am more muscular, more cunning, faster, and larger than you are, and I am a genius. Why you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten.
