I'm thinking when duck season starts, just to try and take my kayak out to the delta waterways around Stockton before sunup, and get out near Mildred Island (4 mile peddle, I have the Mirage peddle drive on my Kayak). What do yall think about this? I am going to put time in for my first time at the range. I'm going to use #4 shot, no decoys. It will be more exploring my first time around, but if I come up on some ducks that would be a plus. Anyone is always welcome to join me.

Just remember you can't shoot from your Kayak while under power, and wear your PFD

I have a buddy that used to be very successful at "sculling" for ducks. Might not be a bad idea to do some internet research on duck sculling techniques. And remember, when possible hunt upstream from where you parked your vehicle. If you have troubles you can always drift back.

Loads and shot size are always a matter of personal preference. In a 3" load I have always had best resulted with 1 1/8th ounces of #2 steel. The #2 seems to do a better job breaking wing bones on bigger ducks. And since you aren't hunting a refuge and aren't limited to only taking along 25 shells, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up a box of the cheap 2 3/4 inch #7 steel target loads at Walmart and toss a few into your bag for water swatting cripples. We used to do that when I belonged to a duck club. That swarm of tiny shot works great for putting a few pellets into the head and neck of a swimming/diving cripple and they're much cheaper than the magnum shells.
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.
