I got home from work and was bored and missing the excitement of deer season here in A zone. So I decided I would go make a stand. My guys have been telling me they have been seeing coyotes in the alfalfa fields at night. On my way I stop about 1000 yds from where I want to make a stand and glass. I see one coyote slip over the levee towards the river. I'm hoping I can call him back. Well no luck calling him back but within 3 min of lightning jack I have 5 coming at me. WOW. Never had that happen before. I was able to drop one with the AR and tried for a second with no luck. I will be going back to this spot soon.

Yep, Congrats on slaying a good looking coyote. And a white tail no less! Calling in multiples is indeed exciting... and way more (exciting) than shooting a deer chewing leaves.

My guys

Uh, just gotsta ask... how many "guys" do you own anyhow??? :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

I don't own any. I should say my workers.

I see you guys have made comments on the white tip tail. Is this rare? Should I cut it off and dry it out? If so how

The white tip isn't rare just a color phase that looks nice.

Well, I only know of one, white tipped coyote that I have seen. However, I honestly am NOT an observant person, and the tip of the tail would be the last thing I would notice, if at all. Hexx, I forget to check their sex half the time (after they're dead / :rofl2:). And I know friends, family & I, have never killed a white tailed coyote either.

So, while they may, or may not actually be considered "rare", their numbers certainly are much fewer, comparatively speaking, to a black or tan tipped coyote. At least in this neck of the woods, or deserts.

I've never paid much attention either. I usually pick them up and get rid of them.

White tips are a genetic thing and usually occur in specific areas. I've heard people say they were older coyotes and other people said they were from higher elevation. Well, those theories don't hold water as I've killed young ones here in the valley with white tips. So as I mentioned it appears it is a genetic color phase. But they look nice.

LOL Frank shooting coyotes may be more exciting than shooting deer munching leaves, but deer are a hell of alot better eating. Well I can't say that for sure cause I never ate a coyote lol and don't plan too. Congrats 97 on your hunt. Ed

Nice one. :good: They are pretty good when cooked right. Makes real good jerky. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow: You need to try it. That way you can let me know if its good,
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
