Hey all,
New here and to hunting.
Soonest I'm able to take the hunter's ed course is November 10th, but that's good because it gives me plenty of time to get ready.
I've been reading a lot about land to hunt, and I think my coworker is on board to try out Knoxville since it's closest to the bay.
I'll be hunting with my .22lr
Not looking for free hand outs but any recommendations on other areas close to the Bay to get me started?
Also looking for some hunting buddies.

Welcome to the forum... and the greatest sport on earth... (predator) Hunting!!

Being from the "South" I wouldn't know where to hunt in your area. But hang around long enough and with diligent research and field time, it will come, as it has for many of us.

Searching the archives here and on other sites, ordering BLM & Forestry maps will also be a big help.

Good Luck

Absolutely. I've been overlaying maps like crazy.
Coworker and I have been tossing around areas.
Also was thinking about looking into Fort Hunter Liggett but not to enamored with the concept of paying for something that should be free.

Really need to network for some private land access.

Well, hunting with a .22 I assume you are looking for Rabbits and squirrels? They can be found on BLM land and hunted for free. Cache Creek has some good spots to try. No motor vehicles allowedso take your walkin shoes. lol Good luck.

As Ornery said the closest productive area to you would probably be Cache Creek. Get that hunter safety course and then your license because you can't hunt anything without it. You might want to leave the night vision equipment at home that's on your rabbit head because it's illegal to hunt with it or rabbits at night. :good: .

Yup, rabbits and squirrels. Would you guys recommend Cache Creek over Knoxville to start?
